VILLAGE OF MURDOCK
AUGUST 14, 2024

The Village of Murdock Board of Trustees met on Tuesday, August, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at the Village Hall. The prior meeting of August 6, 2024 was rescheduled due to the Chairman Dave Nuss and Brittany Cooklin both unable to attend. Roll call as follows; Jake Wilson, Dave Nuss, Michelle Chesnut, Lee Towle, and Clerk were present. Brittany Cooklin was absent.

The minutes from the previous July meeting were read and Lee Towle motioned to approve and Michelle Chesnut second the motion with all members voting in favor of.

The following checks were approved for payment: Murdock Rural Fire Dept.-June-7500.00; Meeske Hardware-elect supplies-46.47; Windstream phone/int.-462.07; OPPD elect-857.02; Ashland Disposal garb serv.-2864.97; Cass Co. RWD#2 722,000 gals.-3754.40; Cass Co RWD#2 read meters-274.00; St. of NE PHE Lab wat test-15.00; Cornhusker Press wat cards-1,001.70; J. Faubion postage/reg serv-181.70; J. Barnes payroll-1086.62; Column Software PBC publish.-96.19; One Call Concepts dig Hotline-21.52; League of NE Municipalities dues-966.00; League of NE Municipalities Utilities Section dues-400.00; Charlie Wilson mow.-630.00(J Wilson abstained) Sargent Drilling CLA valve tx-579.10; Windstream ph/int-461.98; Black Hills Energy gas service-59.78; Young & White Law Offices legal serv.-48.75; Postmaster stamps-146.00; St. of NE Dept of Revenue sales tax-130.60 (auto withdrawal).

The Rural Fire Department and Bornemeier Well Drilling will be contacted for interest in utilizing the old well that is no longer in use and needing repair.

The interior recoating of the water tower has been completed and external is now in progress. Much of the inoperative power lines and equipment have been removed. Nuss will check and see if the crew can restore service to the caution light on top of the tower. Approximately two more weeks of work until the crew is finished-per Dave Nuss.
Christensen Tree Service has not returned call to Chesnut for grinding the storm damage pile at the school. Will contact again for estimate to grind/remove tree debris.

J. Wilson discussed the Electronic CLA valve in the meter pit stating that it needs power at all times to remain open for a direct feed from Cass Co. RWD#2 and not shut down, and the Board should invest in a generator or batter back up for power outages to keep the water flowing at all times. The Board was all in agreement and Dave Nuss will contact Sargent Drilling on advice for what type of device to purchase and install.

Two bids were discussed for repairing the curb/sidewalk running along the North side of the Post Office to the corner section along Nebraska St. The Board requested bids with scope of work requirements from DH Construction and GreyStone Flatwork. Each submitted detailed bids DH Construction-7725.00, GreyStone Flatwork-9,662.00. Chesnut motioned to accept GrayStone Flatwork bid and Towle second the motion. All voting in favor.

Wilson brought up discussion concerning traffic and general law enforcement in Murdock. Board members agreed that a visit with Sheriff Sorensen is necessary. Wilson will contact Sorensen to invite him to a meeting.
Street conditions and potholes were discussed. Wilson will contact Constructors for estimates for patching areas and patchwork materials for filling problem areas.

Board members reviewed the preliminary One and Six Street plan that was prepared by J.E.O. There were no changes to the plan. Board will proceed with the One and Six Street Plan meeting in September.
Michelle Chesnut motioned to sign the Municipal Annual Certification of Program Compliance for 2024. Wilson second the motion and all members were in favor. Dave Nuss signed and it will be submitted to the State Department of Transportation.

Clerk reminded the Board of the invitation to attend the Cass County Economic Development/MAPA meeting on August 21, 2024 at 11:30-1:00 in Weeping Water. Lunch provided.

Routine sewer main flushing was discussed. Nuss will contact Lovell Construction to see if they can do the work and what areas would be suggested. Eyeman Plumbing may also be contacted.

The weeds in the playground area were discussed and will be maintained by Jake and Charlie Wilson.
The Board entered into executive session before closing the meeting.

There, being no further business, motion was made by Wilson and second by Chesnut that the meeting close and the next regular meeting will reconvene on Tuesday September 3, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at the Murdock Village Hall and it carried unanimously by RCV.

Show Times: 7:00 PM Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, 2:00 PM Sundays

Shows start at 7 PM on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and 2 PM on Sundays. The concession stand will open one hour before the show starts, and the house will be open for seating at this time

Manley, Neb. - The Lofte Community Theatre will open Escanaba in da Moonlight, September 6th, 2024. The show will run through September 15th with performances Thursday through Sunday, with Sunday performances at 2 PM. Synopsis: This zany comedy takes you to the heart of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula where the Soady family gathers for their annual deer hunting tradition. But this year, things take a hilariously bizarre turn when thirty-five year old Reuben Soady, still an unsuccessful hunter, believes he’s cursed! In a hunting story to beat all hunting stories, Escanaba in da Moonlight spins a hilarious tale of humor, horror, and heart as Reuben goes to any and all lengths to remove himself from the wrong end of the family record book.
