VILLAGE OF MURDOCK
August 1, 2023
The Village Board of Trustees met in regular session on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Village Hall. Roll call as follows; Jake Wilson, Dave Nuss, Michelle Chesnut, Lee Towle, Brittney Cooklin, and Clerk were present.
The minutes from the previous July meeting were read and then on a motion made by Chesnut and second by Wilson were approved by a roll call vote both voting “aye”.
The following bills were approved by the Board members for payment: Constellation Energy gas serv.-28.16; OPPD elect.-802.93; St of NE PHE Lab wat test-15.00; JEO street improv. Proj.-4841.25; Meeske Hardware marking paint-51.96; Cass Co RWD#2 1,105,000 gals-5746.00; Ashland Disposal Service garb.-2897.97; J. Faubion wat. Oper.-179.90; J. Barnes payroll-1187.42; D. Nuss light pole hookups reimburse-897.36; St of NE sls tx(automatic withdrawal)-138.50; Black Hills Energy gas serv.(automatic withdrawal)-85.21; Windstream ph/int(automatic withdrawal)-380.27.
Brittney Cooklin was sworn in as Board member replacing John Stroy’s position and the following old business was discussed: An updated bid from Viking Industrial Painting was discussed. Michelle Chesnut motioned to request 2 more bids from different companies based on the improvements that are needing completed to be focused on first and also water tower painting and maintenance programs for future upkeep. Jake Wilson second the motion and these bids will be discussed at the September meeting.
Street Improvements were also discussed as JEO has been in contact with Dave Nuss concerning the Second Street Project. The Board would like to continue on from 60% towards 100% design phase with JEO concerning the options for improvement, timelines. This will be tabled for future meetings as this is an ongoing process.
Steve Houston attended the meeting for approval for his building permit application to build a 24’ x 24’ shed on his property with alley way access. Wilson motioned to approve the permit and Chesnut second the motion and it passed unanimously.
Dan Highfield, D&H Construction submitted a bid to replace sidewalk by the Post Office along the North side and front NE corner with 42” wide and 6yds concrete for $5400. Lee Towle made motion to approve this bid and Wilson second the motion, all members voting in favor.
The Sanitary Survey Compliance was updated with only needing the written Emergency Plan of Operations updated and Emergency Response Plan completed as well. Dave Nuss is working with Jack Faubion to have this completed soon for submission to the State.
The Board discussed the Village Residents who own chickens. Letters will be sent to the owners informing them that poultry and foul of any kind are not allowed in within the Murdock boundaries and they will need to be removed within 30 days. There has been interest by residents in amending the ordinances to allow chickens but at this time, poultry is still prohibited.
Wilson motioned to sign the Municipal Annual Certification of Program Compliance for 2023. Chesnut second the motion and all members were in favor. Dave Nuss signed and it will be submitted to the State Department of Transportation.
The Liquor License hearing was opened for the Class C #125849 Liquor License application for Benjamin Madsen DBA Madsen’s Murdock Grill located at 301 Nebraska St, Cass County, 68407. There were not any recommendations against this request and Jake Wilson motioned to give recommendations for approval and Michelle Chesnut seconded the motion. All members voting in favor of recommendation for the License.
There, being no further business, motion was made by Wilson and second by Towle that the meeting close and the next regular meeting will reconvene on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Murdock Village Hall and it carried unanimously by RCV.

It's THIS week!! Anyone who knows me knows that this is my FAVORITE time of the year!!! I have been attending the Cass County Fair since I worked in the Greenwood Farmers Co-op in 1992. At that time the Open Class building was in the unairconditioned building east of the existing open class building.
You can find me in my Tea n' More booth, actually my TEA Toad between the Open Air Auditorium and the 4-H office. Stop by and say hello!!
So with this being said I am encouraging everyone to send me photos from the fair and I will post them in the weekly news for the next month.

Elmwood Cultural Ars & Learning Center
The first workshops through Southeast Community College at the Elmwood Cultural Arts & Learning Center are quickly approaching. Have you signed up?
The August workshops are on Saturday, August 5. The Watercolor Greeting Cards class is at 10:00 a.m. and the Working with Resin class is at 1:00 p.m.
