ELMWOOD-MURDOCK FBLA CELEBRATES A TOP 10 FINISH
AT NATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE IN ATLANTA
More than 375 Nebraska students, advisers, and guests recently attended the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, GA from June 26 - July 1. More than 13,000 FBLA members from 48 states, as well as U.S.territories and international chapters, competed at the conference.
Six students from Elmwood-Murdock competed at the national conference. The students who competed were:
Reid Fletcher
Local Chapter Annual Business Report
LifeSmarts
Cade Hosier
Local Chapter Annual Business Report
LifeSmarts
Henry Coleman
Local Chapter Annual Business Report
Organizational Leadership
Mia Rikli
Electronic Career Portfolio
Reagan vonRentzell
E-Business
Jordan Vogler
American Enterprise Project
The Local Chapter Annual Business Report team of Reid, Cade, and Henry were tasked with giving a 7-minute presentation summarizing the chapter’s program of work and achievements from the past school year.
Only 2 of 15 teams from each preliminary round advance to finals. We were excited to find out we had won our prelims and advanced to the final round, where we were one of the top 15 teams out of 105 teams that competed in that event. At the awards ceremony during the last night of the conference, the team received 9th place in the nation!
Another success was with the LifeSmarts team of Reid and Cade. LifeSmarts is a quiz-bowl style competition in which they first take an objective test individually over the topics of technology, healthcare, finance, and consumerism.
Those teams with the highest test scores then advance to the lightning rounds. Cade and Reid scored high enough on their tests to place them in the top 16 where they then started lightning rounds.
The semi-finals consisted of 16 teams, and only 8 teams could move on to finals. E-M triumphed in the semi-finals and advanced to the final round.
During the first round of finals, they had to go head-to-head with the #1 ranked team in a single-elimination competition. Unfortunately, they were defeated, but the team they lost to became the national champions, so it was still a great accomplishment just to make it to the top 8!
The Elmwood-Murdock chapter also earned two prestigious national awards. These included the Champion Chapter and the Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit.
