MINUTES
VILLAGE OF MURDOCK
MAY 2, 2023
The Village Board of Trustees met in regular session on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Village Hall. Roll call as follows; Jake Wilson, Dave Nuss, Michelle Chesnut, John Story, and Clerk were present. Kristy McHugh was absent.

The minutes from the previous meeting were read and then on a motion made by Wilson and second by Chesnut, were approved by a roll call vote all voting “aye”.

The following bills were approved by the Board members for payment: OPPD electricity-899.23; Constellation Energy/gas serv.-851.81; Ne PHE Lab/wat test-15.00; Cass Co. RWD#2/819,000gallons-4258.80; One Call Concepts/dig hotline-11.88; Michael Todd Industrial Supply/Street signs-333.78; Meeske Hardware/sledge-24.29; NE Rural Water Association/dues-200.00; J. Faubion/wat operator-179.90; J. Barnes/payroll-1187.42; Old Republic Surety Group/treas bondins-100.00; Postmaster/stamps-189.00; Ashland Disposal/garb service-2864.97; McHugh Ins. Agency/work comp&building ins.-1990.00; C. Wilson mow-160.00 (Jake Wilson, abstained) State of NE Dept of Revenue/sales tx-109.32; (Auto Withdrawal) Black Hills Energy/gas serv.-206.53(Auto withdrawal) Windstream/phone int.-363.22( Auto withdrawal)
Kristy McHugh submitted an email to the Board stating that she is resigning as a Village Board Member due to the busy family activities that conflict with meetings. She is able to help with projects, if needed. Notice of the Board vacancy will be posted on the FaceBook page and also posted in the Post Office and Corn Growers Bank informing residents to contact a Village Board member is they are interested in filling McHugh’s position that ends in December 2024.

The Clerk requested permission to order water cards, print cartridges and mailing labels. John Story motion to approve the request and Wilson second the motion. It passed unanimously.

The areas around the new light poles were addressed as D&H Construction submitted a bid that included deteriorated sidewalk areas around the poles along with the holes that needed filled in. Since the Sidewalks are the property owners’ responsibility, the Board was in favor of replacing only the light pole holes at the base and not the included sidewalk areas.

Michelle Chesnut motioned to approve the 2023 mowing season bid from Charlie Wilson of a total $80 for all of the combined lots to be mowed at once or when needed. Seasonal cleanup up/trimming of the trees and bushes at the Welcome Sign will be done. John Story second the motion and it passed. (No other bids were submitted).

Stroy informed the Board that the signs arrived that were ordered and needed to be installed ASAP as there are still parking and safety issues on Wyoming Street with the Semi truck and summer ball leagues that have begun. Board members will install soon.

The Board discussed the proposal from JEO for Scope and Fee for Second Street repair to manage the process as Engineer for this project. The proposal is now considered as an hourly fee when needed and not to exceed $16,700 and will be more cost effective as phone call meetings may be used instead of in-person meetings, for an example. Michelle Chesnut motion to approve the bid and Jake Wilson second the motion. All members in favor of.

There, being no further business, motion was made by Wilson and second by Chesnut that the meeting close and the next regular meeting will reconvene on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Murdock Village Hall and it carried unanimously by RCV.

Elmwood-Murdock Area News

The Elmwood Public Library will be running their Summer Reading Program during the month of July. This year's theme is "All Together Now," which focuses on unity and teamwork! Each Thursday kids (ages 4-11) can meet with library staff and volunteers for a one-hour session that includes stories, crafts, games, snacks and videos! Space is limited. We encourage you to fill out the following registration sheet, or pick-up one from the library. Return it by June 28.
