Looking for a fun, inspirational, and family-friendly tradition for you, your family, and your friends at Christmastime? You're invited to The 3B Homestead for the 7th annual event of

The Living Nativity

The Living Nativity is not a nativity “scene”, but a unique and untraditional presentation of the words from Luke 2. Real stable animals: donkeys, Jacob sheep, goats, cattle, rabbits, poultry, a horse, and more help tell the real meaning of Christmas.

2)  If you choose to come to the Drive-through option for the Living Nativity, you stay in your car and listen to a podcast as you drive through the homestead to see the animals.

The Murdock Lions Club would like to thank the community for supporting us again in 2022.

Our two fundraisers were very successful with a large crowd at the 4th of July meal as well as record sales of our Colorado peaches and pears. Also many of the raffle ticket winners returned the money back to us to assist in our yearly donations.

For the year 2022 donations went to the following: Elmwood rescue squad $500, Cass county food pantry $500, Canine Companions(trains dogs to help people with physical disabilities) $500, Outlook Enrichment $300 (rehabilitation agency for the blind and visually impaired, Omaha), Elmwood Senior Center $200, Weeping Water Senior Center $200, Murdock Fire Department $200, Leader Dogs (training dogs for leading blind) $100, Radio Talking Book $100, and three $600 dollar scholarships to be awarded to graduating seniors in May. Total donations for 2022 were $4550.

The Murdock Lions Club also pays for and volunteers at the Elmwood-Murdock Schools and Louisville schools for the annual health screening with the Mobile Screening Unit testing the students’ eyesight and hearing.

These donations would not be possible without our communities’ support! Our club is small but mighty and we are always looking for more members. Please consider giving of your time to this worthwhile civic organization. Our meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of each month at the Murdock Fire Hall at 7:00. For more information contact Dan Murdoch at (402)867-2973 or Mike Freyer @(402)867-4228.

Thanksgiving Blizzard of 1952

Yes, it was 70 years ago today.
THE THANKSGIVING BLIZZARD OF '52. That morning my brothers (Tom, Francis, and Jack, and my sister Iris jean) got onto our school bus. It was about 35 degrees and raining. This was about 8":15 AN. By the time we got to school, it had started snowing big heavy wet snowflakes.

By eleven AM, the superintendent (Kenneth Freese) decided to cancel school and the bus drivers were called to take us home early. By 4:30 all kids were delivered home but Jim Stock and my brothers and sister. It took about 30 minutes to get turned around at Dick Reuters home.

The bus driver (Don Rase) then said that he was going to have to go back to town and find us places to stay. In the meantime, it continued to snow and snow and snow the heavy wet flakes. But, the driver was able to drive in the tracks that he had made 30 minutes earlier.

Highway One was passable but barely. We then headed north, and when we got to what is now called Bluff Road, the driver (Don Rase) noticed a car in the ditch a few hundred feet to the west. He asked my older brother (Tom) to go see if anyone were in the car.

Soon Tom came back walking an elderly couple to the bus, It was Nr. and Mrs. Joe Gustin. They would have certainly perished had Don Rase not seen their car in the ditch and we had not taken them into town. When our driver turned onto the spur from Highway One, he saw a truck in the ditch. It was from the Falls City Meat Company.

The truck was unoccupied, however. We succeeded in getting back to town and back to the Rase Chrysler-Plymouth Garage where Don Rase started making phone calls to our parents and helping find places for everyone to stay. The roads were re-opened in about five days but the snow did not fully melt until April.

Probably, the only survivors from that bus trip home are Dick Rueter, Jim Stock, and myself as all of my brothers and sister who were on that bus have passed on by now. Don Rase was the real hero that day. I was able to tell him that at my father's funeral in 1996. ORVIN A. LINDELL, CLASS OF 1958.

Cass County News   Fass Family Flier

I've attached a flier about a Syracuse, NE family needing medical help. The husband, Eric Fass, was injured at the Otoe county fair 15 months ago resulting in a TBI & his throat & airway collapsing. His wife, Amanda, needs to return to work SOON to keep their health insurance.

Fass Family Flier2

They are looking for an RN or LPN with tracheostomy experience to come to their home southwest of Syracuse & care for Eric M-F 7:30 am - 5 pm. Since Eric is now on Medicaid, the RN or LPN needs to be employed by Maxim Healthcare. Eric uses an electrolarynx to speak, has a good mind, & is a fighter to get better for his family.

Fass Family Flier3

He hopes to return to farming & being a Syracuse volunteer fireman. I am helping spread the work about the Fass family's needs. I wondered if Scott or you or anyone you know might be interested. I thought it might work for a medical/RN student.
