The Christmas trees are now up on Main street. Now we need a blanket of snow to complete the holiday postcard.
The dusting of snow didn't really count.
Thank you to the volunteers that decorate Main street every year, it is one of the highlights of the year.
We have 46 kids participating in the Christmas Eve children's program, which is the largest number I can ever remember.

Notice that there are a couple of options to choose from this year:
In-the-barn experience: up close to the animals
Drive-through-the-homestead where you stay in your car and listen to a podcast as you see each animal pen,
Schedule a weekday private event for your family, friends, or group.
Let us know if you have any questions.

Glimpse into Murdock History
These are no ordinary photos, but COLOR photographs. In the 1950s this was almost unheard of then. It was cutting-edge "technology". Thank you to Ramona Oehlerking for the video/images.
This looks like a Christmas program, but I don't know any of the participants. Can anyone help?
Many people have commented to me that Pastor Heim probably wasn't responsible for all these photos. The photos were given to Maxine Cline.
If you have photos you would like to share please email them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. I'm sure many would like to see them.

ELMWOOD-MURDOCK SCHOOL WEBSITE
The E-M High School One-Act team has had a phenomenal season and won third at State!
It is great to see the community give them such an enthusiastic send-off and parade.
People made signs and cheered as the Murdock fire department ushered them by the elementary and through town.
Congratulations for all your hard work, dedication, and passion!!
The E-M High School One-Act team has had a phenomenal season and now they’re on their way to the State C2 finals in Norfolk!
In order to qualify for a ticket to State, Elmwood-Murdock had to win their District round held at Nebraska City Lourdes last week. Our District was widely considered to be the toughest in the state (according to NSAA judges) and our kids came out on top.
The cast and crew include 41 students in grades 7-12 and is one of the best examples of teamwork and peer support that we have seen in recent years. They will perform their show, “Into the Crimson Shallows” at the Johnny Carson Theater in Norfolk at 4:30 pm on Thursday, December 9. They will face the five other top-rated shows in Nebraska.
We know that our community wishes them several broken legs!
Go Knights!

Journey into Christmas
There is still time to visit the Bess Streeter Aldrich House and literally "journey into Christmas"
Each room is decorated with a theme by volunteers, 4-H groups, and even a local classroom.
There is even a scavenger hunt for the kids or anyone who is a kid at heart.
American Flags for Christmas
Flagpoles or flags - both make exceptional Christmas gifts or just because you've always wanted one. American Legion Post 247 has both in stock and available for pickup in Elmwood. Proceeds from the sale of the poles and flags stay here in our community and go to support the youth programs of our Legion Post - Boys State and Junior Law Cadet.
We just received a new shipment of flagpoles this week. Along with that came the news that there will be a price increase on our next shipment. So if you're in the market for a flagpole, now would be a great time to get one before the price increase.
Also available are solar lights that fit on the top of the poles.
We also have 3' x 5' and 4' x 6' polyester flags - these are the longest-lasting flags offered by the American Legion. A hint on how to make your flag last longer: saturate the outside edge with Elmer's All Purpose glue before flying. Squirt it on, and either rub it in with a tiny sponge brush or your finger. Let it dry, turn over and repeat. You should be able to get a couple of extra months of use from your flag by doing this and it will only cost about $1 for a small bottle of glue.
Have a flag that needs to be retired? We can help with that as well. Just contact us or place it in a bag and hang it on the doorknob at the museum. We will ensure it is included in the next flag retirement ceremony in the area.
