Glimpse into Murdock History

Continuing with our new series to the weekly news.

During the 1950s Pastor Heim would document his home visits with parishioners by taking a photo. These are no ordinary photos, but COLOR photographs. In the 1950s this was almost unheard of then. It was cutting edge "technology". Thank you to Ramona Oehlerking for the video/images.

Thank you for the great feedback on last week's photo. This week we see Grant Neitzel and friends. But who are his friends? Just who is the gentleman who is laughing, and I wonder what he was laughing about.

I received many emails and even a phone call about Wilma Wilken below. Thank you!!

Murdock church slides19

She is Marlene Stutheit's mother. Wilma and her husband Gus ran the Murdock Mercantile grocery store and meat market for many years. It is the building where Bulldog Bar & Grill is now.

Wilma was a half-sister to Dr. Glenn Knosp who was the doctor in Elmwood for many years. Dr. Knosp's father Herman was an EUB pastor all his adult life.

His first wife Bertha Hoesch (mother of Wilma) passed away; then he married Anna Kleinbach, and their children included Dr. Glenn Knosp. They retired to Elmwood after serving as a pastor and wife.

Remember, reader-submitted photos like this are a reason why the newsletter is interesting. You can send your Murdock photos of events, friends, and family to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

We offer two divine services:  8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

The 10:30 divine service is live-streamed every Sunday via Robin Kuhlman's Facebook Page.

We still practice social distancing in the divine services. Because there is plenty of room at each service there is no need to receive a seating assignment from Pastor Kuhlman.

9:15 am - Sunday School for children and adults

10:30 am Divine Service

Here is an excerpt from the January 31st sermon. Here is hoping it resonates with you in your life. If it does, please feel free to visit Trinity Murdock on Sunday.

Peter himself unwittingly stepped into Satan’s shoes trying to keep Christ from the cross. Jesus had told his disciples that “the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again.” Peter wanted no such crucified Christ. He took Jesus aside and began to rebuke him. “That must never happen to you.” But Jesus turned and rebuked Peter instead. That was not God’s talk but the devil’s talk. “You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.”

Blessings,
Pastor Kuhlman

Murante Encourages Nebraskans to Search for Lost Cash, Other Valuables on Unclaimed Property Day

(Lincoln, NE) In light of the very first Unclaimed Property Day, Nebraska Treasurer John Murante today encouraged all Nebraskans to visit www.NebraskaLostCash.gov to see if any of the $400 million of funds or property being held by the Unclaimed Property Division of the Treasurer’s office might belong to them.

Nearly 33 million people in the United States – 1 in every 10 – has what the industry calls unclaimed property: financial accounts or items of value in which the owner has not initiated any activity for a number of years. When that happens, and the company cannot locate the owner, the money or properties are submitted to the state. Common examples include unpaid life insurance benefits, forgotten bank accounts, and unused rebate cards.

Last year, the Nebraska Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property Division returned $10,328,948.47 in unclaimed property and paid 11,406 claims.

“My office is tasked with returning unclaimed property – in whatever form – to its rightful owner. I’m proud of the job my staff has done to return these funds to Nebraskans especially during the uncertainty of COVID-19,” Murante said. “It’s your money and it should be with you. This is a free service, no one should have to pay to have what is rightfully yours returned to you.”

To increase awareness of unclaimed property, the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA) is launching the first National Unclaimed Property Day on February 1st and encouraging people to search www.unclaimed.org/search or www.NebraskaLostCash.gov  to determine if a state is holding their property. Individuals are encouraged to search their name, a maiden name, or the name of a business or non-profit. The search is free.
