New Year - New Resolutions

It is official 2020 is over, with good riddance!! We won't even talk about it any longer. It's a new year, new habits, new projects, and a new outlook on life. Who is with me?

Did you know the Murdock website is ranked #1 in Google? When ANYONE searches for "Murdock Nebraska" they find. www.elmwoodnebraska.com (ok, Wikipedia is first, but they don't count) The same is true of Elmwood.

Who wants to concentrate on the good things happening in our community? Who wants to make Elmwood a place where you don't want to leave, you want to encourage people to come and enjoy what makes us special and a great place to live, work, and play.

Maybe you have decided to start a local business. I do know last year's Farmers Market has people planning for this year. Some great things are going to be happening!!

Did you hang out at the ballpark, eat some great concessions, take a photo? Strike up a conversation, find out if they are from town, visiting, where they are from.

Did you notice how beautiful the Murdock sign was this past Christmas all covered in snow? What a beautiful Christmas backdrop and welcome into town!!

Did you know that the initial concept of this online town newsletter more than 10 years ago was supposed to be based around READER SUBMISSIONS!

Let's make your New Years Resolution is to find just ONE thing positive in Murdock per week and SHARE it to the weekly news so others can be encouraged, enlighted, and supported.

Remember not everyone has Facebook or is subscribed to the local Stay in the Elmwood-Murdock Group, AND Facebook does not show ALL the content to you. So you may have actually missed the Book Club information below.

Sunday Divine Services (with social distancing)

1. We offer two divine services: 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

2. The 10:30 divine service is live-streamed every Sunday via Robin Kuhlman's Facebook Page.

3. We still practice social distancing in the divine services. Because there is plenty of room at each service there is no need to receive a seating assignment from Pastor Kuhlman. When you arrive, please sit in the designated pews and practice social distancing. Thanks.

Sermon excerpt from Sunday, January 6, 2021

Wherever Jesus is, there is controversy. Sad! After all, Jesus announces God’s pardon, peace, and forgiveness. Instead, He drew hostility and anger. I see this all the time as a pastor. I’m no longer shocked. I’m just deeply and immensely saddened. What do I mean?
First, did you notice that He is OBEDIENT to Joseph and Mary. He does not despise them or anger them. He honors them! Fourth Commandment keeping! Even though Jesus is their God, He is God in the flesh. Therefore, He honors and obeys them as their son. Even though He is their Lord, He obeys them as their Son. Even though He is the Wisdom of God in the Flesh, He is obedient and respectful to His teachers, the earthly authorities. More Fourth Commandment keeping!

Glimpse into Murdock History

Continuing with our new series to the weekly news.

During the 1950s Pastor Heim would document his home visits with parishioners by taking a photo. These are no ordinary photos, but COLOR photographs. In the 1950s this was almost unheard of then. It was cutting edge "technology". Thank you to Ramona Oehlerking for the video/images.

Thanks to the people who sent me messages about Edna and Leo Rikli below. They were the parents of Abe, Warren & Dutch Rikli (also Vernon & Naomi who lived elsewhere). When they retired to town they lived in the house where John & Rosetta Stroy live.

Now the below photo makes sense. I believe this was an Anniversary party. But I don't know the lady on the far right. What a pretty cake. How many people "dress for dinner at your own house.
