Local Business Highlight
Let's celebrate getting back to normal. I would like to highlight a local Murdock business each week with good news, customer experiences, and how you are bouncing back from the Covid-19 shutdown. This way other people get to learn about businesses in the Murdock area and we can spread the news and support them.
We often take our local businesses for granted, they are just "there", but the difference between our local businesses is the people behind them.
This week, Round the Bend (RTB)
We know RTB is known for their meat, their steaks, their Prime Rib, and Margaritas. But when I saw a friends Macaroni and Cheese I just HAD to take a photo and add it to my list of things to try.

Doesn't this look AMAZING!?!
Many people followed how RTB adapted and overcame the strict COVID-19 restrictions from delivery, pick up service to opening up the banquet room for social distancing dining.

BUT, do you know the real reason why RTB continues to grow and is the REAL reason why they are the best steakhouse in Nebraska? It is the people and personal service. From the bus staff, waiters, hostesses all the way to the owner TJ.
Yes, I am going to give him a shoutout here. He deserves it.

TJ makes everyone feel welcome and gives them a dose of Christian and Midwestern hospitality.
Everyone that visits from our of state we bring to Round the Bend (RTB) They all say the same thing. "This is the BEST steak I have ever had! Wow!" I can't count the number of friends we have taken to RTB over the past twenty years for the first time and the response is always the same.

A couple of weeks ago we brought friends (more RTB first-timers) from Omaha to eat on a Saturday night, at 6:00 pm. Yeah, what were we thinking, we know better, being locals.

It was the standard Saturday night wait of 1 1/2 hours. But it didn't matter. We stood outside visited and were entertained by their 18-month-old daughter.
TJ was hustling that night, serving drinks and appetizers outside. (even with burns on his calves from a fire call the day before) His gift of gab and hospitality was "on point". He saw Eloise and asked if she liked "cow", Momma said "She likes cow but LOVES pig, Bacon is her favorite"

TJ's response,..."I can fix her a basket of bacon, would she like that?" With a smile, Mom laughed.. "She would love that, thanks"
We were seated, and five minutes later TJ arrives with a basket of bacon. Talk about making an impression! By the end of the night, they were already talking about who they were going to bring back.
By the way, Eloise got a new nickname... "Bacon Baby" This is a story that WILL be told, and a nickname that will stick. I am SURE she will be back for a LONG time.

Thank you to John Guehlstorff for the historical photos he found and scanned for our enjoyment.
Here is another blast from the past. Does anyone know these lovely ladies?

Send names and any story you have of anyone above to
John's Grandpa (Ed) was an avid photographer. He would take photos of any event that went on around Murdock. From family reunions to everyday happenings. When he passed his grandson (John E Guelstorff III) inherited his camera along with his photo processing equipment and all of his negatives. Recently he found some undeveloped negatives of Murdock
If you have historical or interesting photos of Murdock you would like to share please email them to
Are we getting back to normal?
Our kids now have options of basketball camp, dance class, shopping at Bits and Pieces, swimming at the Weeping Water pool, and even though the Cass County Fair is canceled the 4-H portion is still going to be held in a modified format.
This newsletter is PACKED with updates! It's the longest one I have done in a while and I am happy to do it again. People are getting out again, visiting, traveling, and smiling.
Basketball Camp
Last Day for pre-registration, we are getting back to semi-normal with our activities finally coming back.

Elmwood Farmers Market

We can always use more vendors. More vendors attract more people. More people mean more vendors, more vendors mean more variety!!
More variety means you can do more of your shopping local instead of the "box" stores.
Join our Facebook group and stay up to date on who will be showcasing their produce, baked goods, and other items. Ask if anyone is bringing eggs, honey, cinnamon rolls.
