Thank you to Ramona for sending this quote. Always believe something wonderful is about to happen. Yes, even in the middle of this COVID-19.
What a Week?!
Talk about strange, we went from temperatures in the 70s to six inches of snow! Thank goodness snow serves as insulation and my daffodils did survive.
So what is something WONDERFUL about the snow?
The additional ground moisture is helping the radishes and lettuce I planted the week earlier.

In the past week, people have volunteered to shop for those who need to stay at home due to age or are immune suppressed. Many restaurant businesses are adapting and changing their business model to deliver or offer curbside service. In response, customers are going out of their way to support their efforts. In fact, last Friday The Quonset was sold out of the Fish Special when I called.
After this, when the travel restrictions are lifted we will that more grateful every time we eat at a local restaurant, attend communion

Uncovered Murdock History
Thank you to John Guehlstorff for the Murdock historical and lifestyle photographs.

The names of the twins are Elmer and Delmer. Elmer died quite a few years ago. Delmer lived in Weeping Water for many years and died only a few years ago. I went to worship and Sunday School with them when I was a kid. (Thanks Mel L for the info)
Because I heard feedback about the above photo I am showcasing two photos this week.
Ever since there have been cars, there have been car accidents. This has to be one of the early ones. I wonder how it happened and if everyone was all right. Anyone know or hear about this accident through the Murdock grapevine?

John's Grandpa (Ed) was an avid photographer. He would take photos of any event that went on around Murdock. From family reunions to everyday happenings. When he passed his grandson (John E Guelstorff III) inherited his camera along with his photo processing equipment and all of his negatives. Recently he found some undeveloped negatives of Murdock
Stay tuned in future weeks for more peeks into Murdock history

Take It Or Leave It Pantry
The activity at the Elmwood Take-it-or-Leave food pantry is bustling. Beth Philson recently took the opportunity of it being almost empty to give it a good cleaning and sanitizing. Please stop by and donate extra food and supplies. It is being used and is a good way for people to get food without the "stigma" of facing someone in person.
The free pantry is here to serve our community. It is for neighbors helping neighbors.

Those who wish to contribute may do so at their discretion when convenient. Take what you need or leave what you can. If the box if full please bring your items back later. So what should you contribute? During this coronavirus situation, there will be an increased need for healthy snack items for kids. Obviously items like toilet paper, sanitizer may be needed by many.
Please avoid harsh strong-smelling chemicals that may transfer to food items.
Here are some ideas that may be useful:
- Pasta
- Canned pasta (macaroni & cheese is popular)
- Canned soup
- Granola bars
- Fruit snacks
- Dry pasta
- Spaghetti sauce
- Dry soup mixes
- Canned meat (chicken, tuna etc)
- Boxed prepared meal kits (hamburger helper etc)
The 24-hour pantry is located on the west side of the Village office on west C Street, behind Bits N Pieces and at the entrance of the Elmwood Meat Plant.
Elmwood #LittleFreePantry
The Little Free Pantry is located between Hufstader Chiropractor, the Elmwood Meat Market, and the Village Hall.

Fortenberry: Nebraska Leads Nation in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) Loans Approved, Per Capita
Below is Congressman Fortenberry's tweet on the important news confirmed in yesterday's Wall Street Journal (image attached):
“Proud that #Nebraska leads the nation in small business Paycheck Protection Program loans approved, per capita. Great teamwork! @SBAgov @SBA_Nebraska @nebankers”
Link to tweet:
If you want to talk to Congressman Fortenberry about why Nebraska has been so successful in meeting the needs of small businesses during the coronavirus crisis, please reach out.
Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (NE-1) is the Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Ag Subcommittee and Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations.
The Paycheck Protection Program was an important part of the massive $2.3 trillion bill recently passed by Congress to protect our health, protect individuals and families, and protect our economy. As a critical component of that effort, the PPP enabled small businesses to take out a loan in order to keep their employees on the payroll and pay other expenses. If an employer avoided layoffs during an eight-week period, a significant portion of the loan would be forgiven.
We learned something yesterday: Nebraska ranks number one in the nation in the number of PPP loans approved, per capita. A reporter from Reuters called to ask me why. The first thing I told him was, “Nebraskans know how to plow.” A number of factors aligned. Our financial institutions are community-oriented: The banker knows the farmer, the banker knows the barber, the banker knows the café owner. And we have a number of small business associations that quickly realized that the PPP could be a lifesaver for them. By doing a number of telephone town halls with these associations, the Small Business Administration (SBA), and the banking community, word got out quickly. Then the entrepreneurial spirit of Nebraska kicked into high gear as a lot of people got busy.
Tonight, I discussed these dynamics on 1011 News Lincoln. I invite you to review the discussion here. https://fortenberry.house.gov/news/in-the-news/1011-news-fortenberry-nebraska-leading-nation-capita-ppp-loans-approved
Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (NE-01) is the Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and a Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations.
