Beekeeper Learning Circle

Beekeepers and landowners are invited to a learning circle on

Thursday, Sept. 19

5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Stock Seed Farms, 28008 Mill Rd., Murdock, Nebraska.

This session will focus on seed harvesting and beneficial plantings for both soil and bee health.

The operators of Stock Seed Farms will share about their operation, seed harvesting, and what plants can benefit both the soil and pollinators.

“Certain cover crops, like radishes, clover, and vetches, help build healthy soil and provide blooming forage to increase pollinator potential,” Bailey said.

There is no cost to attend. Interested participants are asked to RSVP to Bailey at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or at 402.367.8989. Visit cfra.org/events for more information.

This event is hosted by the Center for Rural Affairs and made possible by funding from a Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Banner murdock historical museum

Laurel Mc Reynolds parents owned that store on the west side of the street.

Before that was A.J. Toole's hardware store on the east side of the street. Just about opposite from Bornemeier's.

I grew up in Murdock do have fond memories of downtown. Two grocery stores. The old Murdock Mercantile had dry goods on the south side, groceries on the north. Marlene Wilkens would be a good source for that as her parents ran it.

My dad, Richard Trutna, had the plumbing and heating business in a big old redwood building south of the museum now. Of course, the museum was Murdoch Implement, across the street to the west was Rase's car sales and repair shop. Tom Rase would know about that. West of that, on the far corner (still there), was Odd Gillespie's hotel.
Lots of good memories.

(thanks to Judy Hendrix for the information)

When is the museum open?

Saturday afternoons during the summer and the first Sunday afternoon of the month. Take the kids, there is so much to see and learn.

  Where is it?

Across from the bank, the white building on the corner.

Every week I will have a photo from the museum, did you know we had an active railroad going through town, a general store, a barber and much more?

Have you been over to the new Bakers Chocolate store?

I dare you to go over there without buying something. They opened Nebraska largest chocolate store just a little over 10 miles from Murdock.

If you're looking for a job I did see they were hiring both part and full-time positions

Many Friday nights I sat in the bleachers, ate nachos and hot chocolate as I watched the football team and listened to the band. Some of my favorite memories were going to the Winter concert and enjoying the choir and band. Now I don't have to miss the date.
