Memorial Day Observances
Memorial Day is the unofficial kick off to summer. But it means so much more. It is not a Happy Memorial Day to many as this day is set aside to honor those military veterans who did not come home but died serving their country.

As Pastor Kuhlman from Trinity Lutheran Church said. It is a day to recognize their services as "soldiers", in the God-given vocation of a soldier to protect and serve the citizens of this great country. I hope you attended a Memorial Day service, parade, or recognition this year.
The Weeping Water American Legion participated in this past Sunday's cemetery service which was held after the Divine Service this past Sunday. Elmwood-Murdock band director Michael Hansen played the National Anthem and taps. We thank them for their contributions to this yearly tradition.

Time for the Good Neighbor Awards
Plans are already in the works for the Murdock 4th of July Celebration and just one part is the Good Neighbor Awards.
We have a lot of people in the Elmwood-Murdock area who help make our community vibrant, active and a better place to live. If you know one of those people, nominate them to be forever recognized.
This award goes back to 2004 and just take a look at all the good people who have been recognized.

It’s a “Party in the Park” on Sunday, June 2 hosted by the Elmwood Public Library!
Bring the family or come alone and join in the fun. Help us kick off the Summer Reading Program and enjoy the good weather and neighborhood camaraderie!

The fun starts at 4 pm and ends at 6 pm at the Bess Streeter Aldrich Park. We’ll have face painting and glitter tattoos sponsored by Cindy Mather and Cindy Hovorka and Your Thairapist Salon.
Find the library stand and you can check-out hula hoops, water guns, bubbles, and other fun outdoor toys and games. At 5 pm, “The String Beans” will take the stage! (Audience participation is not required, but it’s hard to resist.)
We’ll also have two food trucks that will have meals and treats available for purchase! Note, the Tastee Trailer will be setting up at the park around 11 am on Sunday morning. Feel free to stop by and get your lunch before the rest of the fun starts at 4 o’clock.
Picnic tables will be available but plan on bringing a lawn chair or picnic blanket just in case. Also, for safety purposes, personal vehicles will not be allowed in the parking lot. Please obey parking bans so that food trucks have room to operate safely. The library wishes to thank the many kind people and organizations that have helped set-up this fun community event.
