EM Area News Cass County Events School News

Murdock Clean-up Day is Saturday, August 25th in the morning.
More details to follow in next week’s newsletter.

Our goal is to provide smiles to those who live here or who pass through downtown Murdock through a variety of events. It is hoped that all past events like the scarecrows, Christmas in Murdock decorations, spring flowers, etc. will continue.

Thank-you and much appreciation to all who helped and continue to help in big ways and in little ways

Cass County Fair

What a great Fair! A great time to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. I don't know about you, but it took me an hour and a half to walk from the Open Class building to the Figure 8 races at the "pits". Around every corner was a friend I haven't talked to since the last fair.

It was even a chance to meet new people and make new friends. Norina is one of the newest Elmwood-Murdock High School exchange students from Japan. The Philson family is her host family. Noah and Micah made sure to give Norina the experience of the Fair parade on Saturday night and some true Nebraska sweet corn.

Several community members won ribbons in both the Open and 4-H class. It was a great place to see friends you only see one time a year. Here are just a few photos of the local winners and their creations.

Congratulations to everyone who won and participated. Without all the entries there would be nothing to see. Murdock is full of creative people.

In addition, you earn money for every ribbon you receive. Keep a copy of the Cass County Fair book handy and when you feel crafty pick something from a fair category then every month you will have 12 new projects to enter. Get the kids involved and they might even earn enough to pay for their Midway ride tickets.

August 19th is the "Sundae" School Kick-OFF with Ice Cream Sundays for everyone during Sunday School.

Darin Platts wife Lauren has been battling illness for a long time now. Several months ago she was FINALLY diagnosed with Chronic Lyme Disease after years of hospital stays, treatments, specialists, and emergency room visits.

Currently, shes lost half of her vision and use a walker. She has almost lost her life once already resulting in a lengthy hospital stay. They are aiming to send her to the Hansa Center in Wichita, KS for alternative treatment. The only problem is that the 3 wk program is very expensive and with all of the other medical bills, medication, and trips out state for Lyme literate doctors, they are unable to send her at this time.

As a mother of a young son and wife to a husband, she fights for her life every day for her family.

There will be a free will donation for pulled pork sandwiches, beans and a bag of chips. Also, a silent auction will also take place with karaoke following. If your able to make it all proceeds will go directly to Darin and Lauren to help out with all of the medical expenses they will incur through this tough time. Let's all show our support for a great friend and family.

The Rev. Pastor Dianna Clark, from Iowa, will be in Elmwood Christian Church August 19th to meet folks. Church people will be bringing in a pot-luck luncheon meal after the 10 AM service. Dianna will be preaching her first sermon here on August 26th. Whoever you are and where ever you are on life’s journey you are welcome at this event.
