Spring is here and the sound of lawn mowers and the smell of lilacs are in the air.

Murdock is busy with activity. There are track meets, early graduation parties, the retirement recognition of Mrs. Colbert at the Spring Concert, plant sale, ball games and practice is starting at the park.

How many of you bought plants at the Spirit Squad plant sale? Did you get them planted? Don't worry, you are not late, remember there was snow just a couple of weeks ago.

The Junior-Senior High Spring Concert is highly anticipated every year. This year it marked the retirement of Betty Colbert who has been such a factor in the development of our youth in the community. A large group of alumni got together and surprised her with, what else, song. It was very emotional and I don't think there was a dry eye in the crowd

Many of these students went on to study music in college and now teach music in Nebraska.

The musical talent that Mrs. Colbert and Mr. Hansen bring out in our students is amazing!

This year the band received Superiors at District Music contest. For a Class C School, we can compete right up there with bigger schools. It is wonderful that the students have such dedicated teachers and a well-rounded music education.

Even the Junior High choir is impressive! Solos even! That is VERY rare at the junior high level.

This week our Student of the Week Winner is Zach Rust. He is a senior at Elmwood MurdockHigh School. His activities include basketball, FBLA, and other activities. He is the son of Jesse and Kim Rust.

He was nominated for these reasons:
- He has been an integral part of our basketball team going to state 3 years in a row
- He works very hard academically
- He is always respectful and friendly
- Heis a person I trust and admire

It's Not Too Soon to Think About the County Fair

2018 Cass County Fair books will be available in May, but start thinking about the Special Contests entries now. We have the BEST County Fair in the State, hands down.

Not only is it a totally free fair, but there is something for everyone.

You just can't do and see everything. Start practicing your appetizers, snickerdoodle cookies, pumpkin pies now. It's a lot of fun to sit and watch the judging in the Open Class Building and the crowd gets bigger and bigger every year.

Ladies Golf Group at Grandpas Woods, Elmwood

Speaking of getting outside a ladies golf club is starting at Grandpas Woods, it's not a league, just a time to get together with the ladies and golf. Maybe have a drink afterward.

We meet on Monday nights through the summer at 5:30 for 9 holes of golf.

Work to Begin on N-63 Alvo North Realignment

March 15, 2018 (Lincoln, Neb.) — Weather permitting, work is scheduled to continue the week of March 19 on N-63, between Alvo and I-80, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Knife River, LLC of Sioux City, Iowa has the $11,758,926 contract. Work will include realignment of N‑63, culverts and box culverts, and wetland mitigation. This will be the second of two phases of work.

During this phase, N-63 will be closed to traffic from Reference Post 4+20 (Alvo) to Reference Post 9+68 (Church Road). A marked detour will be in place along I-80 to N-66 to N-50 to US-34 for southbound traffic and along US-34 to N-50 to N-66 to I-80 for northbound traffic. This portion of the project is anticipated to be completed in November 2018.

The Department’s project manager is Jesse De Los Santos of Lincoln. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously through work zones and along detours.
