Did you see it? Did you see the Eclipse? Were you one of the thousands in Nebraska who had been hearing about the eclipse passing over us for more than two years?
Yes, I drove south a few miles and was not disappointed. I saw hundreds of out of state cars come through Elmwood as well as vehicles from Omaha trying to avoid the traffic jams on Highway 50. Can you believe it, the Cass County sheriff's department directing traffic at Hwy 50 and 34?
I made it a point of saying hello to people and welcome to Nebraska. To me, that was the big event. Talking to people from New York and California who had never been to Nebraska before.
It was an adventure and an event. Thank you to the Elmwood library and Elmwood-Murdock Public Schools for hosting Eclipse education events and for these radical Eclipse glasses.
School has started and that means football games, club meetings, volleyball, and a whole calendar of activities. Please feel free to send me updates, photos, and announcements you would like our community to know about. Remember, if you don't have a child in school we don't get the announcements and many of us would like to attend the suppers, science fairs, carnivals, and other events at the schools.
Likewise, we enjoy seeing photos of what the classes are doing, the band events, the choir performances and One Act Play activities. Is FBLA doing something special, is the Student Council having a fundraiser? Is a student athlete highlighted in a newspaper for an achievement? All of these things are news in our community.

Husker Fans Salute the Troops 2017
Husker Fans Salute the Troops 2017 – The mission is to salute Nebraska Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines: active duty, national guard, reserve, retired and veterans, to say “Thank you for your service to our Nation” so they know the Husker Nation will never forget their sacrifice and dedication.
This is an unprecedented event in the history of military support to the Armed Forces. This weekend hosts troops and their families from all services, of all ranks, to come together and cheer on their team as they play Purdue on October 28th, 2017.
This weekend is more than just a watch party, though. It is a chance for these servicemen and women to be treated like the heroes they are with an all access, private tour of Memorial Stadium and a brunch in their honor.
2017 marks the tenth year for this event. 2008 was the first year held during the OU game and attended by about 70 troopers and their families. Since then we have had to limit our attendance as it has grown to nearly 500 attendees. Each year we try to improve the troopers experience and being our tenth year we are expecting this to be the best.
Registration for the 10th annual Husker Fans Salute the Troops is now open to first-time attendees --http://www.huskersalute.org/.
