It's here! It's Almost Here!!
The Annual Murdock 4th of July Celebrations!
Come for the Parade, come for the food, come for the fun!
Hundreds of people flood Murdock on the 4th of July and it's our time to shine. We line the street and watch the parade and catch candy.
We also smile as we see the 4-H'ers run back to get in another float, maybe the baseball float, or march in the band. Hey, when you are a small town you do a lot of things.
Start off with the Dillon Synovec Memorial Run, you don't even have to run, you can walk. Then have breakfast at Bulldogs. Relax, then sit out and watch the parade.
Then head over to the Murdock Firehall for a Cornhole competition and more food. Smoked brisket is my favorite.

Bouncy House: MURDOCK PRIDE is honored to be offered another year of having the Bouncy House on the main street on 4th of July. Thank-you, EMMA, for this opportunity for our non-profit to raise money to purchase spring flowers, Christmas tree lights, etc.
Look for the Bouncy House across from the bank on the vacant lot. It will be the place with lots and lots of smiley boys and girls bouncing around!
We would also like to thank ALL of the are business and patrons who contribute by donating so this show can happen. Without those donations, it just wouldn't be possible!

2017 Dillon Synovec Booster Club Run/Walk
It is time for the 4th of July Memorial Run/Walk in memory of Dillon Synovec. Entry fee is $25.00 and you receive a t-shirt if you register before June 16th.

Get your Fireworks locally. Located in Elmwood, across from the Post Office you can buy the latest and greatest pyrotechnics for the 4th of July. If you ever wondered what a certain firework looked like you scan the QR code on the package and watch it before you buy. How cool is that???
Snappers are still 0.50 a box and my favorite are the Killer Bees.
They will be open every day, even July 4th after the Murdock parade. Stop by and take a look. Ask some questions and put together a great display this year. Remember to stay safe and respect your neighbors.

Elmwood-Murdock Good Neighbor Award
We all have ways within our various organizations to honor and thank individuals who put forth an exemplary effort for the organization. But how do you thank someone who voluntarily puts forth an outstanding effort for the entire community or goes out of their way to help out a neighbor?
Well, the Elmwood-Murdock Merchants’ Association (EMMA) Good Neighbor Award is the answer to your question. This award recognizes individuals who make the Murdock and Elmwood communities a better place to live.
Maybe you have received the Good Neighbor Award yourself—remember the thrill of riding the float in the 4th of July parade, receiving your certificate, or seeing it posted at the Cass County Fair for all to see?
Take time to pay it forward and nominate another deserving community member.
See who won past awards for being a good Elmwood-Murdock Neighbor

Nominations are now being accepted. Forms are available at the EMMA website (elmur.org). The deadline has been extended to Saturday, June 17, so act fast!
Just a reminder that past recipients are not eligible to be nominated again. There are many more people out there doing great things for our community - let's honor them this year!

Murdock PRIDE
I learned the whole story behind the red petunias in the planter thanks to Linda Glantz. So the next time you go by them you can smile and then thank a group of young 4-Hers from the Stove Creek Rustlers.

On a busy Sunday in May, the Stove Creek Rustlers 4-H Club from Elmwood came
to Murdock to plant the spring flowers. In a very short time, all ten planters were filled
with a spike and red petunias. Wow! They were good workers!
Thank-you to the following volunteers:
Ryan, Kim, McKenna, Melinda, Gabrielle, Savannah, Micah, Bobby, Sara, Charley, Ryker, Savannah, Lyndee, Ayzlee, Kade, Melissa, Aryana, Annie, Lucy, Bo, Morgan, Lane, Andy, Jenna, Rylan, and Ellie.
They did an amazing job and were so appreciated. Unfortunately, as stated in the recent article, Mother Nature wasn’t so nice to them so there was a second planting done by Ken and Linda Glantz.
This summer they will be watered by Duane Blair, Cherie Strayhan, Denny Koch, and Linda Glantz. We also want to recognize Dave and Angie Friesell who maintain the Oxbow Trail Welcome sign and planter on Hwy 1 and Spur 13A.
These volunteers are appreciated for showing their MURDOCK PRIDE.

Cass County Fair News
It is getting to be that time of the year again. Time to start thinking about fair entries and exhibits.
Quilt Raffle: Last year's special block contest was for quilt blocks using the colors of the Olympics since it was an Olympic year. The blocks were then made into a quilt to be raffled off at this year's county fair. Besides the blocks from the contest, there are 7 blocks which were signed by 2016 Olympic athletes who had Nebraska ties.

Tickets will be for sale at the Fair Expo Building between August 8 and August 12, drawing to occur at 8:00pm the evening of August 12 in the Expo Building. One does not need to be there. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.
If someone wants to buy tickets ahead of the fair, call Ramona Oehlerking at 402-429-8585. May have to leave a message.
Be aware that this year's contest (and next year's raffle quilt) is for 12 1/2" blocks of true blue and white. 2018 fair requirements will be 12 1/2" block of autumn colors.
