Murdock Fireworks
The rebirth of fireworks in Murdock for the 4th of July celebration started out as just a few neighbors lighting some things off in their own driveways.

But John and Rosetta Stroy got together and decided to join our shows together to make the show even better for their friends and families.
That lasted only 1 year as we decided that the area we were lighting off in was entirely too restrictive and could be dangerous. They then decided to check for permission to light at the ball fields and take up donations to help finance the show and start inviting any and everyone that wanted to come.
John grew up watching fireworks in the same location when we were children and agreed that it would be great to give a good finish to all of the other 4th of July festivities that happen in the normally quiet little community of Murdock!
The show has been an extremely successful venture and continues to gain in popularity each year. Once again this year's show is gearing up and we doubt anyone will be disappointed when we liven up the are with beautiful colors, flashes, sparks, screeches, and some thunderous booms at dusk the night of the 4th to celebrate the birth of our wonderful country!!!!
We would also like to thank ALL of the are business and patrons who contribute by donating so this show can happen. Without those donations, it just wouldn't be possible!

Cass County Garden Tour
Last Saturday was a wonderful day for a walk in the Garden and five local residents opened up their gardens to the public to raise money for support for local cancer patients. This was coordinated by the Murdock Moderns Community Club (which has about 20 members) I got started at 10 am at Green Gables Inn, then went to Jack and Deb Gilbert's garden.

I'm kinda of a photo bug, and flowers are nature's art. These sunny daisies are from Deb Gilbert's farm, along with the WONDERFUL Canna Lily. She has a planter full of them and they are PERFECT. Two of the gardens have ponds and waterfalls.

It was a very popular event and every place I went had dozens of people come through just when I was there. Each location had snacks and refreshments. Joyce Mortensen even provided a map with the names of the plants and locations.

I picked up a few gardening tips, and a few plants. Everyone needs more plants. Joyce even had tips on what plants grow well together. Did you know that Nasturtiums, Calendula, marigolds, and carrots grow well together? Many of these keep bugs away and are called tomato companion plants.

Green Gable Inn had a garden paradise outside of the back deck and for the guest that stay at their AirBnB I don't think they would ever want to leave.

Mike Cook and Jason Gissler have created a gardeners paradise on Church RD (the acreage just east of Trinity Lutheran Church) with immaculate landscaping and a wonderful water feature. Gardening is definitely a passion for many people in the area. It is an act of love.

No area garden walk would be complete without a visit to Dean and Judy Iris Garden. This is the last year it will be open to the public and they are considering leasing the gardens, but it will take a VERY special person who shares their passion and attention to detail.
There is more to Iris's than just your purple variety. There are colors from yellow, peach, mauve, white and everything in between. Just when you think you have found a favorite you find another one in the next row.

The Irises are beautiful and this year they had over 600 people visit from all around the country.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who made this event possible.
It was a lot of work and time for the hosting gardeners and all the volunteers. I really hope this is an annual event, or maybe every couple of years at least. It's a great community event and I saw several cars from Omaha and Lincoln.

Buy a Drone or Go Pro in Greenwood? Where?
Grand Opening of Sideline Power Retail and Rental Shop
Stop by for the grand opening ceremony on July 1st, 2017 from 9 AM – 1 PM
Refreshments and giveaways from DJI.
Matt Starr, CEO of Sideline Power, enthusiastically announces the opening of the Sideline Power Retail and Rental Shop in downtown Greenwood, NE. “We frequently get visitors stopping by our office requesting product demos or even just to see what’s new on the market,” mused Starr, “so opening a storefront seemed like a logical progression for the business.”
While customers are able to purchase equipment outright, Sideline Power also provides equipment rentals for the most popular products they market. “We know someone might not want to spend a significant amount of money on a drone that they might only use once or twice.
That’s why we offer rental programs for items like DJI Drones, GoPro Cameras, Anchor Speaker Systems, and more…” Starr stated. Need a loud speaker for a special event? Sideline Power has you covered. Need a drone for some cool on-the-fly-footage? Sideline Power has you covered.
Sideline Power’s Retail and Rental Shop is currently open
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 AM – 5 PM,
Thursdays from 8:30 AM – 6 PM, and
Saturday from 9 AM – 1 PM.
Come by 216 Highway 6, Greenwood, NE 68366.
Take some time to check out the retail products for sale, or sign up to rent a piece of equipment you’ve always wanted to try.

Lofte Theatre News
“The Man Who Came to Dinner” at Lofte Theatre
Manley, NE [May 19, 2017] - The Lofte's second production of the year takes us back to small-town Ohio in the 1930s. Sheridan Whiteside ("Sherry" to his friends) is a famously outlandish New York City radio personality who has been invited to dine at the home of the well-to-do Stanley family. But disaster strikes before he enters the house. Whiteside slips on the ice and injures his hip!
What started out as a one-night event soon turns into a month-long convalescence. Confined to the house, Sherry drives his hosts mad by viciously insulting them, monopolizing their house, running up large phone bills, and receiving many bizarre guests, including paroled convicts.
This classic American script has enjoyed several revivals on Broadway and the London stage and was made into a feature film in 1942 starring Bette Davis, Jimmy Durante and Monty Woolly.
Ken Snyder of Elmwood is playing the irascible Sheridan Whiteside. He is joined on stage by Brenda Jones (Louisville) and Tim Sorensen (Elmwood) playing his hosts, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley. Rosalie Duffy (Lincoln) and Doug Rothgeb (Omaha) play the star-crossed Maggie Cutler and Bert Jefferson. Rounding out the cast are Dustin Reckling (Louisville), Jean Wymore (Syracuse), Jessica and Rita McKinney, Ken Patry and Trish Miller (Omaha), Cheryl and Will Jones (Manley), Tom Lucas (Papillion), Jeff Johnston (Elmwood), Mike Brown (Firth), Jim Skrobo (Elkhorn), Aubree Sweeney and Millard Carnes (Plattsmouth), Guillermo Rosas (La Vista), Zeke Rouse (Murray), Brenna Thompson, Nick Roth (Lincoln), John Bell and Dan Roberg (Omaha) and Shawn Reynolds (Bellevue). The production is directed by Kevin Colbert.
"The Man Who Came to Dinner" runs June 2-4 and 8-11. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 7pm. Sunday performances begin at 2pm. Those interested in tickets may call the box office at 402-234-2553 or visit Lofte.org for online purchasing. All seats are reserved and ticket price is $19.
