If you were driving on Highway 1 on Thursday late afternoon and evening, you might of slowed down to a crawl. Or may I say a walk.

The Elmwood Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad donated a fire truck and EMS unit to lead and follow the marchers. The Elmwood Murdock Spirit Squad made the signs to educate and let drivers know why there were slowing down.
"The Ruck March, Every day we lose 22 veterans to PTSD and Suicide. 22 Miles, 22 Marchers, carrying 22 pounds, Representing 22 Veterans"

Thank you Elmwood Spirit Squad

The flashing lights of the Elmwood and Murdock Volunteer Fire and Rescue squads escorted 16 Ruckers into Murdock. They walked from Elmwood to South Bend to bring awareness to the 22 veterans who lose their lives to PTSD associated suicide every day.
The VFW Post 247 hosted the lunch meal and Bonnie Brewer and Jeff Johnston opened up the museum and set up a chow line on the east lawn. Chili was made by Dawn Romine, potato soup by Linda Glantz of MURDOCK PRIDE, and Linda also provided the AMAZING cupcakes? (Have you had Lindas cupcakes? They are soooo good)

Dalton Bowden and Brian McHugh
Military veterans also participated including a Vietnam vet and a recent Marine Corps veteran David Hromanik.
The walkers from Lincoln arrived later than anticipated and unfortunately the school students had dismissed. But their was plenty of student participation and awareness. The Elmwood-Murdock Student Council decorated banners and hung them in the windows for all to see.

Don Klaumann from the Gretna American Legion Riders Post 216 even came down with American flags. He stood with volunteers on various corners as the procession passed by and thanked them for their service.

Thank you to everyone for their support including
American Legion Post 247 • Elmwood-Murdock Spirit Squad • Gretna American Legion Post 216 • JH/SH Student Council • Elmwood Volunteer Rescue Squad • G.A.R. Veterans Museum • Kelli and Tom Brewer • MURDOCK PRIDE • Marine Corps League • Sound of Silence • The Quonset Bar & Grill

The youth of the Elmwood and Murdock Methodist church youth group community were walking around Elmwood Sunday afternoon as part of a scavenger hunt.
It wasn't what you thought either. They were looking for food, household paper goods (toilet paper, paper towels) and donations for the Elmwood Food Pantry.

What a great idea!! What they didn't know is they stopped by the house of the newsletter editor. So, I had to take a photo of the boys.
Join us for worship on Sundays at 9:30 am.
We are a congregation of seekers and followers of Jesus Christ. We are young families, older families, empty nesters, and great singers and musicians.
Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE the Elmwood-Murdock high school choir. Mrs Colbert does an amazing job in finding the singing talent in students and getting it to emerge.
Grace Althouse and Isaiah Kluver performed at the Nebraska All-State honor Choir last Friday November 18th. They spend 3 days rehearsing with over 400 of the best students from the state
Congratulations to Grace Althouse on achieving all three years in the All-State Honor Choir. This is an incredibly difficult accomplishment. Ross Mumford was the only other E-M student to accomplish this
Over 440 students from across the state of Nebraska are chosen by audition to participate. Grace was the number one auditionee from the Lincoln region. Isaiah Kluver has been part of the All State choir for two years.
The community is very proud of you both. You are both blest to have such a beautiful voices.
Music is the ultimate entertainment!!!

Round the Bend Steakhouse partners with Marine Corps League and Marine Corps League Auxiliary to raise gifts for military children.

Every veteran that has selflessly served our nation deserves to treat his or her children with gifts on Christmas morning.
However, many veterans live without the means to provide Christmas gifts to their families.
Round the Bend Steakhouse is excited to announce SGT Kringles Kids, an initiative to provide children of military veterans in need with gifts this holiday season.
Through a partnership with the Marine Corps League (MCL) and the Marine Corps League Auxiliary (MCLA), all gifts brought to Round the Bend Steakhouse will be directly donated to disadvantaged children of veterans, so that every military family may enjoy the Christmas they deserve.
Now through Dec 16, visitors to Round the Bend Steakhouse are encouraged to bring an unwrapped and new toy to place under the Christmas tree in the dining room.
As a show of gratitude, SGT Kringles Kids participants will receive a free appetizer.
“For us there are two reasons for our freedom, Jesus and the American soldier.
We are excited to show the love of Jesus to our soldiers’ kids by putting them first this Christmas,” said TJ & Tifini Olson, owners of Round the Bend Steakhouse.
Toy Suggestions (children 12 & under):
• Books
• Puzzles
• Art supplies
• Board games

The Lofte Theater
“Twas the Night Before Christmas” at Lofte Theatre
Manley, NE [November 22, 2016] - The Lofte Community Theatre near Manley is ready to help get you into the holiday spirit. Their December production, “Twas the Night Before Christmas” opens on Saturday, December 3 at 7:30pm.
“Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.” But, wait! A mouse is stirring - because Santa missed his house last year. Before you can say, “Merry Christmas!” we’re off on the wild adventures of a mouse, an elf and a spunky little girl who just won’t take, “No,” for an answer.
This script is a modern-day treatment of the traditional 19th-century classic tale. Together a mouse named Amos and his human friend, Emily embark upon a journey to visit Santa Claus. Directed by Kevin Colbert, this energetic holiday tale will see the characters engage in a sword fight, a squirt gun battle and a perilous airplane ride. This show is specifically styled to appeal to our younger audience members, but children of all ages will enjoy this holiday romp.
Amos the mouse is played by Lofte newcomer Austin J. Brady of Lincoln. His human friend Emily is played by Shakeida Bullis of Bellevue. Rounding out the cast of colorful characters are Greg Leger and Doug Rothgeb of Omaha and Keri Hogue of Elmwood.
In coordination with this production, the Lofte is holding a special fundraiser where children of all ages can meet Santa and the rest of the cast. You will have the opportunity to eat a catered lunch right on stage, visit with Santa and even get your picture taken with the Jolly Old Elf himself. This special luncheon is being held at noon prior to our three Sunday matinees. Advance reservations are required. This would be a great multi-generational family event or company outing. Tickets to the luncheon are just $20.
Production dates for the show are December 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18. All seats are just $19. Those interested can call the Lofte box office at 402.234.2553 for reservations.

Front row, Greg Leger and Doug Rothgeb. Back row Keri Hogue, Austin J. Brady and Shakeida Bullis.
