Happy Thankful November
Are you ready for Thanksgiving and the up coming HOLIDAYS??
I am, I LOVE Thanksgiving and fixing the big meal. Wrapping the turkey in bacon and stuffing it with butter is a tradition my Dad started 50 years ago. My kids are all coming home and we will eat, laugh, and I will enjoy every minute of them hovering in the kitchen.

RUCK March Coming Through Elmwood
Pass the Word!! This Thursday NOV 17th, that's tomorrow everyone.
Military veterans, led by the Elmwood Volunteer Rescue Squad (with lights blazing) will march down Wyoming Street in front of the school and then turn on 2nd St to Nebraska Street right past Bulldogs.
Be out between 4:00-4:30 for their arrival and cheer them as they walk past.
Veterans will be marching and Rucking (carrying 22 lbs in ruck sacks and backpacks) to bring awareness to the veterans. They will be heading north on 310th Stree as they make their way to South Bend.
Let's show the veterans our support. Pass this along to friends and family and anyone living along 310th Street!!

People in both Elmwood and Murdock are getting ready to welcome the marchers. The Elmwood-Murdock Spirit Squad was busy making banners to place on the EMS Vehicles which will lead and follow the marchers.
People are making chili, soup, brownies to fed the hungry veterans before they head out and to welcome the Lincoln Marchers as they arrive at the GAR Veterans Museum.

Veterans Day Program
The Elmwood- Murdock School once again did a great job in recognizing our veterans last Friday.
Lieutenant Colonel Kevin J. Hynes was the guest speaker and spoke directly to the students about what they can do for the veterans.
Listen, was the message. Listen to their stories, listen to their experiences. To veterans, it was tell your story, the good and the not so good.
Lt. Col Hynes also asked all the veterans to stand and be recognized. Applause was given to the dozens of veterans in attendance. Then, he asked for everyone who is related to a veteran to stand.
About a third of everyone in attendance stood.
This showed me how many people have a tie to someone in the military. Everyone standing had a family connection to a veteran; a Mother, Father, sister, brother, grandmother or grandfather, aunt or uncle had served in the United States Military.
Junior High students held a flag folding ceremony and presented the importance of the stars and stripes.

Mr Hanson led the High School band in the Star Spangled Banner and the Armed Forces on Parade march. Just a little secret, it's one of my favorite band medleys and I look forward to it very year.
The Elmwood-Murdock Elementary School program is extremely touching and personal. Really, who can resist the innocence of little kids singing with their hearts and soul.
Don Klaumann (also know as Grandpa to a few Stroy grandchildren )brought the Gretna American Legion Riders and provided the American flags the 6th graders carried and held on the sides of the gym. He explained flag etiquette, how to honor the flag and what it means to veterans. In addition, every student was given a small American flag and booklet.
Thank you to the school administration, staff, teachers, and students for helping honor our veterans and their families.

Quilts of Valor Award Ceremony

Sitting Veterans: (L to R) Steve Bruttig, Gary Buck, Jim Panska, Herman Platt, Jim Stephen, Don Stille, and Lyle Stohlmann (thank you Beth Philson for the photo)
Standing behind are the ladies of the Oxbow Quilters group who come from Elmwood, Weeping Water, Ashland and the surrounding area. The grandchildren of Terry Drake accepted the quilt on his behalf and Bruce Stock received his quilt during the Elmwood presentation below.
The Oxbow quilters, led by Bonnie Brewer presented eleven quilts to Elmwood-Murdock Vietnam Veterans. The Quilts of Valor is a nationwide, grassroots effort to provide quilts of comfort for veterans who have served in combat.
The Oxbow quilters started making quilts in 2015 and have presented 21 quilts thus far to World War II, Korea, and now Vietnam Veterans. What a wonderful program. Thank you Bonnie and thank you Oxbow Quilters.
