Murdock Nebraska News
Happy Halloween!!
I really appreciate the people who go to the extra effort to decorate for all the holidays and Halloween especially.
It has been a holiday for the kids and it's totally OKAY if it's commercialized and gaudy. Christmas, on the otherhand, I like more "sophisticated" and it's more of a religious holiday.
But Halloween, go all out with ghosts, inflatables, scary animation and I'm all for it!!
NEXT is Veterans Day...
Please send me photos and local stories of active and retired veterans so I can highlight their contributions.
There are numerous Veterans Day celebrations and recognitions I will feature the next couple of weeks, but I really want your stories too.
NEEDED: Photos and stories of local veterans
Your help is not only greatly appreciated but NEEDED. Please send any articles, updates, photos etc to me by Sunday at 4PM via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Murdock Welcomes You!

The military scarecrow saluting by the Town Hall is named “Tom” to honor our military. It was made by Kelli Brewer and Linda Glantz.
Farmer “FBLA” scarecrow wearing his work overalls was made by Zane Riki and his grandpa.
Lucas also brought some wonderful pumpkins to place around downtown Murdock and supplied cornstalks which were placed on light poles by Linda Glantz and grandson Anthony of Avoca.
The MURDOCK PRIDE mission for the scarecrow event is to bring smiles to all. Thank-you to those whose chose to participate.
Everyone is invited to join in the fun of preparing for “Christmas in Murdock”.

Elmwood-Murdock School News
Congratulations on the Elmwood-Murdock Football Team!!
It's been a long hard season but we have ANOTHER WIN on the board Brownell-Talbot. It looked like it was a hard fought game back and forth with a final score of 48-33. Justin Drake had over 300 yards rushing and FIVE touchdowns!
What a way to end the season.
The Elmwood-Murdock Football team played a fantastic game and has one more left in the season.
Here are the statistics for all of the games combined of the season for the sports statistics junkie in all of you. Thanks Julie Schmale for sending these on a weekly basis.

This year the annual craft show will be to benefit the Elmwood-Murdock packpack program.
The Backpack program is a statewide program that was started by the Food Bank in Lincoln.
The mission is to help alleviate child hunger in our community by providing hungry children with nutritious and easy to prepare food at times when other resources are not available, such as weekends and school vacations.

Elmwood G.A.R. Hall Veterans Museum
This past Sunday was the Salute to Veterans service at St. Pauls United Methodist Church in Elmwood.
Two quilts, made by the Oxbow Quilters were given to Ed and Jace Blunt by Bonnie Brewer in a very teary ceremony.
Several displays of veterans from the Elmwood-Murdock area were also on display and below are just a few photos of the event.
In the grand tradition of a church dinner fried chicken, pork loin and all the fixings were served by the ladies of the church. If you went away hungry it was your own fault.
I don't think anyone went away hungry. It was standing room only and the organizers did a fantastic job honoring our veterans.
There is a series of local activities honoring our veterans between October 30th and November 13th. Be sure to put them on your calendar so you won't miss them.
The Brewer family had a wonderful display and I think it's AMAZING how much Kaylee looks like her Mother.
Both the high school and elementary have a veterans program on Friday, November 11 and are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. I try and go every year and am never disappointed.
