QUILTS OF VALOR PRESENTATIONS IN HONOR OF 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF VICTORY IN EUROPE (VE) DAY

On Friday, May 8, the 70th Anniversary of VE Day, six members of American Legion Post 247 were awarded Quilts of Valor (QOV) made by the Oxbow Quilters.

Members of Post 247 receiving QOVs were Boyd Clements, Dwight Clements, Oral Kuehn, Glenn Miller, Hilton Rogers, and Lorens Ropers.  In addition, a QOV was presented to Hallie Mills in memory of Stuart Mills who passed away in January.  All of these World War II veterans served overseas during the war.

The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.  The quilts are meant to say thank you for your service, sacrifice, and valor in serving our nation.  The Oxbow Quilting Group is made up of members from the Elmwood-Murdock and surrounding area and chose QOVs as one of their group projects this year.

Governor Pete Ricketts issued a State of Nebraska Proclamation honoring each of these World War II veterans and declaring the 8th of May 2015 as “Distinguished Veterans of Elmwood and Murdock Area Day.”
