It's a Small World After All....
The Elmwood Murdock high school band went to Florida last week and performed at Disneyworld. The kids and their parents are so thankful to all of the people and businesses that help support the band and make this tour possible! Half of the band made it to Orlando as scheduled and spent Sunday afternoon at Epcot Center....after several delays, the other half made it in late Sunday evening.
On Monday, Memorial Day, it was Magic Kingdom. The kids had the opportunity to venture throughout the park, until it was time to march. They got to go backstage to change and warm up. They stepped off at 2:30 and marched throughout the park. Elmwood-Murdock was the only band that marched that day. The kids got to finish up the day at Magic Kingdom by watching the electric light parade and fireworks at the Cinderella's castle.
Tuesday, the group headed to Kennedy Space Center bright and early! What a fun and interesting place to visit. You could take a tour of the launch areas, sit in the mission control room and experience an actual lift off. Then it was off to Cocoa Beach for a box lunch and some swimming in the ocean!! After a few hours in the sun, the kids returned to the hotel to freshen up and we had a group dinner at Planet Hollywood in Downtown Disney.
Wednesday, they traveled to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. Harry Potter was of course a big attraction!! So many rides and places to visit!! The kids loved the water rides and roller coasters! The Despicable Me ride was a favorite, too. The kids ended their day with a pizza and pool party back at the hotel.
Thursday, it was pack up and head to Disney Hollywood Studios for part of the day. The kids could take back-stage tours, see shows like Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Or hit the rides like Tower of Terror or the Rockin Rollercoaster with Aerosmith!
The plane rides home were a little less eventful and we were all back in Murdock late that evening. Everyone had a great time, but they were glad to be back home, too. Thanks to Mr. Hansen, Dale & Christine Vanderford, Annette Eggert, Susan Ervin, Cara Furgerson, Genia Leone, Kim Griffin, & Cindy Schmidt for sponsoring and to the Brockhoff family for safely hauling the instruments and uniforms for us.
