As I go about my business today there will be a little catch in my breath when I least expect it. The tears will come easily and I'll blink them back as I think about Dillon, Tyler, and AJ. This could happen any day but today especially is hard since it is the anniversary of their death.
Even though I think of them every day today will be a little harder. Today I will spend more time thinking about them. Not because I force myself to, but because it just happens. I think about them, I think about their families, I think about their friends, and I think about unfullfilled dreams. I think about what might have been. And my heart will break all over again.
Dillon had a way of making everyone think they were his best friend. Tyler was quiet with a great sense of humor. AJ had such a caring heart who was going to join the service and see the world. No one knows why they were taken from us but in their short time on earth they left their mark. They have inspired songs, drawings, memorials, and dreams.
We all stopped breathing for a short time three years ago when we heard the news. Parents still hold their kids a little tighter. Dillon, Tyler, and AJ's classmates have a forever scar on their hearts that remind them to treasure every moment. The community has drawn closer. It does take a community to raise a child. And the community will mourn the children still.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families every day but even more so today. We remember.

Signs of fall...

Mountains of grain.
