Edwin T. McHugh, Murdock Banker, Files for Unicam

Edwin T. McHugh, Murdock banker and attorney, filed today (Monday) for state senator, third legislative district at the courthouse in Plattsmouth, it was announced at noon.

Mr. McHugh, son of Eunice Towle McHugh, former Plattsmouth school teacher, and the late Jerry E. McHugh, one time resident of Plattsmouth and South Bend, is cashier and one of the organizers and incorporators of the Corn Growers State Bank at Murdock, where he is also actively engaged in the practice of law.

A graduate of the Murdock high school and the University of Nebraska College of Law, Mr. McHugh is married and the father of two children.  He is a member of Plattsmouth Hugh Kearns Post of the American Legion.

McHugh served four and one-half years in the U. S. Navy during World War II.  During this period, he rose in rank from Seaman Second Class to Lt. Commander.  Twice he was decorated for valor, first at Biscay Bay, followed by action during the invasion at Omaha Beach.  He saw duty in England, Africa, the Mediterranean, South America, and Gibraltar.

Mr. McHugh has made a wide acquaintance in Cass County during the past few years while successfully promoting the growth of the Corn Growers State Bank, one of the first new charters to be granted in Nebraska during the last decade.  His success as a bank executive and lawyer bestows upon him many qualifications that should be an asset to the residents of Sarpy and Cass counties should he be elected.

He is seeking the legislative seat now held by Senator Chris Metzger of Cedar Creek.

Special Performance at the Lofte

The Lofte Community Theatre's cutting of the full-length play, "Leaving Iowa," recently won top awards at the Nebraska Association of Community Theaters competition and will be advancing to the Regional Competition being held in Salina, KS April 27-May 1.  To help offset travel costs, the cast and crew invite you to special public performance on Tuesday, April 26th at 7:30pm.  The Lofte will be collecting a Free Will Donation and all proceeds will be designated for Region V expenses.  No advance reservations are necessary and the performance is open to the general public.
The performance will last approximately one hour and there is no intermission.  "Leaving Iowa" will be the Lofte's season opener and the full-length play will run May 28-June 12.  The portion being performed on Tuesday, April 26th is a competitive cutting.  If you cannot attend the free will performance, but still wish to contribute to the Lofte team, please contact the Lofte's box office at (402) 234-2553.

A Night to Remember...

The Elmwood Murdock Junior/Senior Prom was a success.  After all that planning...all that fundraising...and all the shopping..the kids had a good time.  Here are a few pictures of the kids as they prepared to leave for Prom at the Lancaster Event Center in Lincoln.  The Post Prom Party Committee rented charter buses to drive the kids to the event.  After an evening of dinner and dancing the kids changed clothes and boarded the buses again to go to the YMCA in south Lincoln for the Post Prom Party.  There they had a choice of the rock climbing wall, swimming, basketball, dodgeball, and many other games.  They had a lot of Minute to Win It games, too.  I have some great pictures of the Post Prom Party to share with you...except I've misplaced my camera.  Hopefully by next week I will be able to post those for you.  The kids were awesome.  The Elmwood Murdock parents can be proud of their kids.

Thanks to Dan Timm, Kalee had a camoflauge bandaid for the scratch on her thumb that she got from her gun.  Doesn't that just seem fitting?
