If you want to see Kalee Brewer's eyes light up ask her about her dad,
Lt. Col. Tom Brewer. Tom has given her plenty of reason to be proud.
Not only is he a decorated soldier, a purple heart recipient, he is the new
military advisor to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. He will be
helping in to try to slow the production and distribution of herion. The
drug money is used to fund insurgents purchase of weapons, communication
items, and bribing officials. Even without all of those things Tom would have
been Kalee's hero. He has always let her know that she is very important to
him. He makes time to take her to the movies and out for sushi. He wants
to know where she is and who she's with and what she's doing. He has
taught her how to shoot a bow, how to shoot a gun, and how to shoot a
buffalo. Though Kalee acts tough it is clear that she is a daddy's girl. Lt.
Col. Tom Brewer is a very important figure in the war but he is a more
important figure on the home front. This is Tom's last tour with the
military...and then he starts the his lifetime tour as full time dad.

The Making of a Video
Rachel Fortney convinced some friends to help her make a video for a school project.
When it is done it will be posted on Youtube and I'll let you know
so you can see it. There are some very creative kids at Elmwood Murdock.
I can't wait to see this video, the pictures from the evening look interesting.

PUMPKIN PATCH GOING TO THE DOGS
Third-Annual “Doggy Day” Planned at
Bloom Where You’re Planted Farm
On Saturday, October 10th, Bloom Where You’re Planted Farm is going to
the dogs for an event to benefit the Capital Humane Society.
For the third year in a row, farm owners Terry and Teresa Lorensen are
inviting visitors to bring their canine companions to the pumpkin patch. Canine
admission is $4.00 (the same cost as human admission) and all canine admission
proceeds will be donated to the Capital Humane Society. In addition, sales of
Halloween-themed neckerchiefs will be donated to the organization, and donation
jars will be in place so that even those who don’t bring a dog can participate.
Volunteers from the Capital Humane Society will be on-site from 10:00 a.m. until
2:00 p.m. with a selection of dogs which can be adopted from their location at
2320 Park Boulevard in Lincoln, NE.
“Many of the animals we have here at the farm, including our dog Rocket, have
been adopted, and we want to help other animals who need new homes,” said Lorensen.
Bloom Where You’re Planted Farm is located at 911-108th St., rural Avoca, NE.
Their annual fall Pumpkin Festival runs through November 1st. Hours are: Fridays
1:00-6:00 p.m. and Saturdays/Sundays 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. For more information
