ELMWOOD MURDOCK FCCLA MEMBERS PLACE AMONG TOP 10 IN THE NATION

Murdock, NE, July 24, 2026 – Quinn Ross, Millie Hendricks, Gemma Zoz, Erin Hynes, Kate Stock, and Amelia Farris of the Elmwood-Murdock Chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) earned national recognition by placing among the top 10 in the nation at the 2026 FCCLA National Leadership Conference, held July 6–10 in Washington, D.C.

STAR Events, which stands for Students Taking Action with Recognition, allow FCCLA Members to apply the knowledge and skills they develop through Family and Consumer Sciences education to real-world projects, presentations, and career-related challenges. Participants advance through local and state competition before earning the opportunity to compete at the national level.

Quinn Ross competed in FCCLA Chapter Website, Level 2 and earned Top 10 National Finalist recognition. The event challenged participants to use a chapter website to educate, inform, and involve members and the general public about the importance of the Family Consumer Sciences program and FCCLA.

Millie Hendricks and Gemma Zoz competed in Promote and Publicize FCCLA, Level 1 and earned Top 10 National Finalist recognition. The event challenged participants to develop an FCCLA promotion and publicity campaign to raise awareness and educate the school, parents and members of the community about the importance of FCCLA and Family and Consumer Sciences education.

Erin Hynes and Kate Stock competed in Promote and Publicize FCCLA, Level 2 and earned National Placement recognition. Erin and Kate placed 1st out of the 33 entries in their STAR event level. The event challenged participants to develop an FCCLA promotion and publicity campaign to raise awareness and educate the school, parents and members of the community about the importance of FCCLA and Family and Consumer Sciences education.

Amelia Farris competed in Say Yes to FCS, Level 1 and earned Top 10 National Finalist recognition. The event challenged participants to demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to explore and experience the career of being a Family and Consumer Sciences educator. Participants must prepare a portfolio, conduct classroom observations, plan and execute a lesson, develop an FCCLA integration plan and deliver an oral presentation.

Aubrey Stewart, competed in National Programs in Action earning a silver medal. This is an event that use the planning process to implement an FCCLA National Program project. Aubrey along with Ellie Meister created a community service project. They created a Children’s Book Walk in the Bess Streeter Aldrich Park in Elmwood, NE. For this project they met with the Elmwood Village Board at a regular board meeting and also applied for and received community grant money to purchase supplies for the project.

The Elmwood Murdock FCCLA Chapter was among 251 delegates from Nebraska and more than 10,000 FCCLA Members, Advisers, and guests from across the nation, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa who attended the conference.

The FCCLA National Leadership Conference brings students and educators together for Competitive Events, leadership development, career exploration, educational workshops, and national recognition. The 2026 conference was especially historic because it was held in Washington, D.C., during the America 250 celebrations.

In addition to attending the conference, the EM students also had the opportunity to tour museums, the Capitol building, and National Mall and monuments. The students also attended a Washington Nationals baseball game and a lunch cruise on the Potomac River.

Thirteen youth from Trinity Lutheran Murdock attended Higher Things you conference in Ft. Collins CO last week. They designed a church shirt for the last day and I think anyone who knows Pastor Kuhlman can relate.

Almost 900 students participated from over 130 congregations and 27 states. The Trinity Youth group meets after church every 2nd Sunday of the month.

Come for our breakfast at 9:00am , stay for Bible Study in the fellowship hall, then church and youth fellowship.
