The Annual Murdock 4th of July Celebrations!

Happy July!! It's not July 4th but I had to share more photos and fun from the day. There were so many photos of the parade I had to put them in a video. It was warm, not as hot as some years, it was fun, it was full of patriotic spirit and red, white and blue Americana and it was wet.

    IMG 8901 406

Yes, 4th of July was last week, but it fell on a Tuesday which didn't give me very much time to get all the photos ready for the website...sooo...here is the full parade from the Murdock 4th of July Celebration.

Share with friends on Facebook! Email to family who couldn't attend this year.

Linda Glantz and the volunteers with Murdock PRIDE did a fantastic job with decorating Main Street with the new fencing between the buildings and patriotic stars.

    IMG 8927 364

The Lions Club, as usual also provided a fantastic lunch that always has a line out the door and down the sidewalk. It makes the line go faster when there are kids from Tomorrows Producers coming by with free watermelon. YUM!! I had my fair share. IMG 8931 365

Enjoy the video and SHARE on Facebook!

Send me more of your photos and I'll add them to the newsletter next week! Email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Quest for ‘SPAMALOT’ at Lofte Community TheatreQuest for ‘SPAMALOT’ at Lofte Community Theatre

    Spamalot LofteTheater 2017

Pictured (From Left) Chris Berger, Aaron Spracklin, Benjamin Pettiford, Matthew Parker, Lowgaen Schmidt, Wade Mumford and Matthew Hansen are King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table in the Lofte Community Theatre’s upcoming production, “SPAMALOT."

Manley, NE [July 10, 2017] -  King Arthur and his knights are on a quest to find the Holy Grail and their search begins at the Lofte Community Theatre!
The Broadway smash, ‘Monty Python’s SPAMALOT’ opens on the Lofte stage Friday, July 21.

The stage musical is lovingly ripped from the 1975 cult classic film, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.”   Winner of three Tony Awards, ‘SPAMALOT’ retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.  But, in true Monty Python style, their adventure takes a silly spin.  The production features beautiful show girls, cows, killer rabbits, plague-ridden peasants and rude Frenchmen.

’SPAMALOT’ originally ran on Broadway for three years and was seen by more than two million people.

Popular songs from the show include, “The Song That Goes Like This,” and “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.”
Directed by Kevin Colbert, the production features Chris Berger of Louisville as King Arthur and Catherine Bobst of Lincoln as Lady of the Lake.  In 2016, they played leads Harold Hill and Marian Paroo in the Lofte’s production, “The Music Man.”  Sir Lancelot is played by Wade Mumford of Lincoln.  Aaron Spracklin of Elmwood shines as Sir Galahad.  Brave Sir Robin is brought to life by Matthew Parker of Papillion and Lowgaen Schmidt of Louisville is the humble Sir Bedevere.
“These are some of the best voices in the area,” said Colbert.  “We’ve got a great cast and that should translate into a great show this summer.  Python is sort of check-your-brain-at-the-door humor, so folks can come and just laugh.”  Colbert does mention that there is some mild adult humor and suggests a PG-13 rating.

Show dates for ‘SPAMALOT’ are July 21-23, 27-30 and August 4 and 5.

    Tickets are $19.

Sunday, August 6 is already sold out so those interested in tickets should make their reservations soon.

The Lofte is also offering a Medieval themed pre-show luncheon, complete with games and entertainment available for purchase on Sunday, July 23 and 30.  Advance reservations are required for the meal.  The Lofte box office can be reached at 402.234.2553, or tickets can be purchased online at Lofte.org.

Auditions for ‘Wait Until Dark’ at Lofte Community

    Wait Auditions

Theater auditions for ‘Wait Until Dark’ at Lofte Community Theatre
Manley, NE [July 6, 2017] - The Lofte Community Theatre near Manley will be holding open auditions for its upcoming thriller, “Wait Until Dark,” on Monday, July 31 and Tuesday, August 1 at 7 pm.

Artistic Director Kevin Colbert is looking for one woman, three men and one young girl to fill out the cast.

“Wait Until Dark,” is a classic thriller of Susan Hendrix, a blind yet capable woman imperiled by a trio of men in her apartment.  As night falls, Susan discovers that her blindness just may be the key to escape.  The play first debuted on Broadway in 1966 and was released as a major film starring Audrey Hepburn in 1967.
Production dates for the play are Sept 8-10 and 14-17.  Rehearsals will begin in mid-August.  Those wishing to audition should bring a list of possible schedule conflicts and be prepared to read from the script.  No experience is necessary, but actors should be prepared to work hard and have fun.
The Lofte is located just northeast of the intersection of Hwy 1 and Hwy 50 in Cass County, near the town of Manley.

It is getting to be that time of the year again. Time to start thinking about fair entries and exhibits.

Quilt Raffle: Last year's special block contest was for quilt blocks using the colors of the Olympics since it was an Olympic year. The blocks were then made into a quilt to be raffled off at this year's county fair. Besides the blocks from the contest, there are 7 blocks which were signed by 2016 Olympic athletes who had Nebraska ties.

    Quilt Raffle Poster

Tickets will be for sale at the Fair Expo Building between August 8 and August 12, drawing to occur at 8:00pm the evening of August 12 in the Expo Building. One does not need to be there. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.

If someone wants to buy tickets ahead of the fair, call Ramona Oehlerking at 402-429-8585. May have to leave a message.

Be aware that this year's contest (and next year's raffle quilt) is for 12 1/2" blocks of true blue and white. 2018 fair requirements will be 12 1/2" block of autumn colors.

    MurdockNebraska Flowers

There are people in Murdock Nebraska who take pride in our town and add special touches without even anyone asking. Have you noticed the flowers in the planters throughout town? How did they get there? What happened when we had several inches of rain in May?

The barrels were full of water and the flowers died. How did they get replanted and who did it? Well, a little bird told me that Linda Glantz was responsible so if you see her tell her thanks!!

CommunityShreddingDayThe Murdock Lions Club, along with the Elmwood-Murdock Merchants Association, Corn Growers State Bank, and the Murdock Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a Community Shredding Day. See the attached flyer.

We all have ways within our various organizations to honor and thank individuals who put forth an exemplary effort for the organization. But how do you thank someone who voluntarily puts forth an outstanding effort for the entire community or goes out of their way to help out a neighbor?

Well, the Elmwood-Murdock Merchants’ Association (EMMA) Good Neighbor Award is the answer to your question. This award recognizes individuals who make the Murdock and Elmwood communities a better place to live.

Maybe you have received the Good Neighbor Award yourself—remember the thrill of riding the float in the 4th of July parade, receiving your certificate, or seeing it posted at the Cass County Fair for all to see?

Take time to pay it forward and nominate another deserving community member.

See who won past awards for being a good Elmwood-Murdock Neighbor

Past Good neighbor Recipient List as of 2016 page 0

Nominations are now being accepted. Forms are available at the EMMA website (elmur.org). The deadline has been extended to Saturday, June 17, so act fast!

Just a reminder that past recipients are not eligible to be nominated again. There are many more out there - let's honor them this year!

    Murdock 4th of July Celebration

Are you getting ready for the 4th of July yet, it's just around the corner. There is the parade in Murdock and then fireworks!

If you have an announcement to add to the 4th of July lists please send them to me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I will insert them into the list of activities.

Yes, there are fireworks in Murdock again, no need to travel any further than our own community.

The rebirth of fireworks in Murdock for the 4th of July celebration started out as just a few neighbors lighting some things off in their own driveways.

    Murdock 4th of July Fireworks

But John and Rosetta Stroy got together and decided to join our shows together to make the show even better for their friends and families.

That lasted only 1 year as we decided that the area we were lighting off in was entirely too restrictive and could be dangerous. They then decided to check for permission to light at the ball fields and take up donations to help finance the show and start inviting any and everyone that wanted to come.

John grew up watching fireworks in the same location when we were children and agreed that it would be great to give a good finish to all of the other 4th of July festivities that happen in the normally quiet little community of Murdock!

The show has been an extremely successful venture and continues to gain in popularity each year. Once again this year's show is gearing up and we doubt anyone will be disappointed when we liven up the are with beautiful colors, flashes, sparks, screeches, and some thunderous booms at dusk the night of the 4th to celebrate the birth of our wonderful country!!!!

We would also like to thank ALL of the are business and patrons who contribute by donating so this show can happen. Without those donations, it just wouldn't be possible!

Buy a Drone or Go Pro in Greenwood? Where?

Grand Opening of Sideline Power Retail and Rental Shop

    DJI Crop

Stop by for the grand opening ceremony on July 1st, 2017 from 9 AM – 1 PM

    Refreshments and giveaways from DJI.

Matt Starr, CEO of Sideline Power, enthusiastically announces the opening of the Sideline Power Retail and Rental Shop in downtown Greenwood, NE. “We frequently get visitors stopping by our office requesting product demos or even just to see what’s new on the market,” mused Starr, “so opening a storefront seemed like a logical progression for the business.”

While customers are able to purchase equipment outright, Sideline Power also provides equipment rentals for the most popular products they market. “We know someone might not want to spend a significant amount of money on a drone that they might only use once or twice.

That’s why we offer rental programs for items like DJI Drones, GoPro Cameras, Anchor Speaker Systems, and more…” Starr stated. Need a loud speaker for a special event? Sideline Power has you covered. Need a drone for some cool on-the-fly-footage? Sideline Power has you covered.

Sideline Power’s Retail and Rental Shop is currently open

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 AM – 5 PM,

Thursdays from 8:30 AM – 6 PM, and

    Saturday from 9 AM – 1 PM.

Come by 216 Highway 6, Greenwood, NE 68366.

Take some time to check out the retail products for sale, or sign up to rent a piece of equipment you’ve always wanted to try.
