FOOD DRIVE AND MEMORIAL MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
We will again be having a food drive for the local food pantry. If each building brings 750 of the requested food items for a total of 1500 we will dismiss early on December 23, 2008. Also, we are requesting that students bring money for a memorial music scholarship fund in memory of A.J., Tyler, and Dillon. Our goal is $500 total from both schools.
Food items that will count toward the total are: canned fruits, canned vegetables, cereal, rice, pasta, (no Ramen noodles) and paper products.
We will dismiss at 1:15 p.m. on December 23, 2008 if we reach these goals. Students may bring food items and money from December 1 through 9:00 a.m. on December 19. Please contact the school office if you have any questions.
SCIENCE FAIR DATE CHANGE
The Science Fair date has been changed from January 6 to January 20.

Military Orchestra Graces Lofte Stage
The Lofte Community Theatre is proud to be hosting its first orchestral concert. On Sunday, December 7th at 2pm, the 43rd Army Band from Lincoln will present a one-hour concert. The sixty-member orchestra will fill the entire Lofte stage. The concert will include patriotic selections, marches and emphasize holiday music. The concert is free and open to the public – no ticket is required for admission.
The 43rd's members are citizen soldiers who bring a wide variety of skills, talents and longevity to the unit. The members' various civilian jobs and experiences contribute a great deal to the overall success of the 43rd Army Band. This group meets one weekend a month and 15 days during the summer to rehearse and to fulfill military training requirements.
Officially, the band traces its history back to 1924 when it was created in Crete, Nebraska as the "Band Section, Service Company 110th Medical Regiment." The band went through several reorganizations and on March 3, 1948, the band was federally recognized as the 43rd Army Band. Over the years, they have not only won several music competitions, but also received many designations for overall excellence as well as trophies for Outstanding Company.
The Lofte has hosted other military groups in the past, one as recently as this November. However, when given the chance to host such an impressive group, the Lofte jumped at the chance. We welcome everyone in the surrounding communities to join us for our first Christmas Symphony. It's sure to be a memorable event for years to come.
Theatre To Perform Nebraska Premiere of Forever Plaid Tidings
The TADA Theatre, recent recipient of the Downtown Lincoln Association's Impact Award, will present the Nebraska premiere of the holiday hit, Forever Plaid Tidings opening December 4th.

Topping it off is the boys’ spirited montage, A Plaid Caribbean Christmas, which puts the “Day-O” in Excels is!
Forever Plaid Tidings is on stage for three weeks only December 4-7 / December 11-14 / December 18-21 with curtain times at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $18 (Thu.- Sat.) and $15 (Sunday matinees). A note from the Superintendent
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Today, at the Murdock School site, a staff member found the statement “bomb in school” written on an interior stall partition in the junior high boys restroom. The Cass County Sheriff’s Department was immediately contacted. The first step in the investigation, conducted by the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, was to determine the level of threat and to physically search the building for any items which could be considered unusual or a threat. After conducting their investigation, the Cass County Sheriff’s Department determined the threat to be at such level not to warrant any other further action. .
As you know, this is the second threat of this type we have investigated during the 2008-2009 school year. Ironically, the two threats were almost identical in nature. These actions are very disruptive to the school day and the educational environment. Yet, they must be taken seriously and warrant an investigation by law enforcement.
Starting on December 1, 2008, in order to improve safety in our facility and make future investigations more manageable, only fully visible backpacks or book bags made of mesh or other materials allowing for visual inspection will be allowed into the junior-senior high school. Gym bags or sports bags will be taken directly to the locker rooms and only students enrolled in a Physical Education course or out for a school sponsored sports team will be allowed to have these types of bags in the locker rooms. These measures may be an inconvenience to students and staff, but need to be taken in order to help protect our students and staff and limit disruptions to the learning environment.
We would encourage you to talk to your child and see if they know who may be responsible for these actions. I would appreciate you or your child contacting the school or the Cass County Sheriff’s Department with any information which may be pertinent to this investigation. Please contact me at 867-2341 if you have any questions regarding this item of business.
Respectfully,
Daniel L. Novak
Superintendent
Funny
Matt. 18:4-5 'Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.'
Johnny's Mother looked out the window and noticed him 'playing church' with their cat. He had the cat sitting quietly and he was preaching to it. She smiled and went about her work. A while later she heard loud meowing and hissing and ran back to the open window to see Johnny baptizing the cat in a tub of water. She called out, 'Johnny, stop that! The cat is afraid of water!' Johnny looked up at her and said, 'He should have thought about that before he joined my church.'

(Okay, we all know this is not the same cat!!)
