CASS COUNTY FAIR - 2009
Send me you harvesting/canning/freezing tips!
I'd like to do a write up about special tips Murdock community members use during their garden harvest. Whether it is vegetable or fruit tips, I'd like to hear about them. Or, if you have a FAVORITE recipe you use, please send it! I know Mary Fritz has an AWESOME home made tomato soup recipe. If you have tips from ‘how to keep the weeds out' to ‘how to pick a watermelon', please pass them on to me so the wealth of wisdom can be shared with our fellow Murdockians.
Elmwood-Murdock Building Project Update

MONTHLY BUILDING UPDATEJULY 2009One of the key dates in our schedule for completion of the building and renovation project was Wednesday, July 15, 2009. According to the schedule, this was the date all interior metal stud installation and drywall work was to be completed.
I am happy to report we met this timeline and, in fact, completed this phase of the project prior to the deadline. With this phase of the project completed, we are moving forward with the finish work phase of the project at both sites. I am also happy to report we have begun to turn on the new air conditioning system in phases and are hopeful to have both buildings fully air conditioned by Monday, July 20, 2009. The next key date for both building sites is August 15, 2009, which has been set as the date we can take occupancy of the buildings. This will signify the start date for our physically moving into both buildings. This will allow for approximately two weeks to get everything moved in and ready for the first day of school on Monday, August 31, 2009.
It is really amazing how well things are moving along at this point in the project. It is also very exciting to see the interior of the facilities take shape and get a clearer picture regarding the attractive and functional facilities we will have once the project is completed. At the Murdock School site, the new additions are nearing completion with painting, ceiling tile installation, wall coverings and floor coverings nearing completion. We are anticipating having the new additions completed by Monday, July 27, 2009, with full attention, at that time, being placed on completing the remodeled areas of the building. As you know, the old gym at Murdock is undergoing at full remodel. The remodel consists of painting, re-finishing of the wood bleachers and the installation of a new rubber floor. The projected completion date for this portion of the project is Monday, August 17, 2009. I believe patrons will be amazed to see this portion of the building once it is completed. The landscaping of the exterior of the facility was delayed by some of the early July rains, but moved into full swing on Monday, July 13, 2009. Our goal is to have a majority of the exterior landscaping at Murdock completed prior to August 1, 2009. We are planning to plant grass on or around August 1, 2009, to complete the exterior phase of the project. Millwork and furniture being constructed at the Nebraska State Penitentiary is arriving daily and is being installed as it arrives. I think patrons will be very impressed with the millwork and furniture that has been built by the inmates in the Nebraska State Penitentiary. Everything is on schedule for completion at the Murdock School site for the first day of school on August 31, 2009.Work at the Elmwood School site has really accelerated over the past month. With the metal stud installation and dry wall work completed, we have started to move into the finish phases of the project. The installation of acoustical ceiling tile started during the week of July 6, 2009, and will continue until the entire ceiling tile is installed in early August. The installation of floor coverings started on Monday, July 13, 2009, with carpet being installed in the new pre-school and kindergarten rooms. Our goal is to have all floor coverings installed by early August. The first truckload of millwork and furniture arrived at the Elmwood School site on Thursday, July 9, 2009. Millwork and furniture will continue to be delivered and installed over the next 30 days. Exterior concrete work began in earnest during the week of July 13, 2009. One of the major tasks of this portion of the project is the pouring of new concrete drop off lanes for cars and busses on the south side of the building. Additionally, new sidewalks and building entries need to be poured at various points around the building. It is our goal to have all the concrete work completed by Friday, July 24, 2009. Landscaping at the Elmwood School site is scheduled to start on Monday, July 20, 2009, with all landscaping to be completed on or before August 1, 2009.
The areas at both sites that we are placing our attention on for the next few weeks are the libraries, restrooms and kitchen area at Elmwood. These areas require a great amount of work and we will need to focus on these areas in order to be ready for occupancy on August 15, 2009. As with any remodel, it is always the bathroom and kitchen that require the greatest amount of work and time to complete. This remodel will be no different in that respect. According to the construction manager, we are on schedule for completion of these projects prior to the occupancy date.
As you may remember, we have a final phase of the project to complete while school is in session. This phase of the project is the remodeling of six existing classrooms at Elmwood and five existing classrooms at Murdock. We had planned to start this final phase September 1, 2009, with completion scheduled for January 1, 2010. Due to the project moving forward more quickly than anticipated, we are going to begin this final phase of the project on July 15, 2009, at Elmwood and on August 1, 2009, at Murdock. With the early start; we are moving completion of the entire project from January 1, 2010, to October 15, 2009. As a result, we will only be utilizing temporary classrooms for the first 6 to 8 weeks of school instead of the first semester. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to move forward with the project and move our final completion date by approximately ten weeks.
In conclusion, the expansion and renovation project is moving forward at a pace that will make our facilities ready for the first day of school on Monday, August 31, 2009. The sub-contractors have worked long hours in making sure the project remains on schedule and should be commended for their efforts. At the same time, we have great deal of work to complete over the next 30 days and everything will need to move forward without any delays. I believe everyone will be impressed with the functionality and appearance of the new facilities when they are completed. We are looking forward to the first day of school on Monday, August 31, 2009.

Pain Relievers Are NOT All Alike
Though non-prescription pain relievers (called “analgesics”) are similar, each type has its own special benefits:
· ACETAMINOPHEN Products: provide relief of pain and fever, and are especially useful for children or for anyone allergic to aspirin.
· ASPIRIN Products: provide relief of headache pain, muscular aches, neuralgia (nerve pain), and fever of colds. They're also useful for the pain of sprains and arthritis because of their anti-inflammatory action.
· IBUPROFEN Products-are similar to aspirin with effectiveness over pain, fever, and inflammation.
· COMBINATION Products-usually provide an antacid with aspirin to minimize any aspirin-related stomach discomfort.
