Murdock Newsletter

July 8, 2009

There have been several events that I have not been able to attend that are tremendously significant to the Murdock Community. PLEASE send me photos and/or information about the happenings! Members of the community are extremely interested in the results of the FBLA National Conference. I overheard Becca Fortney say she was at State all weekend and will be going to Nationals. I’m assuming that is for softball. That’s GOOD NEWS! I am sure we have had many birthdays, births, vacations, reunions, anniversaries, sports activities, and other milestones in our lives that would be wonderful to share! Thanks in advance for your effort!

Support the families of the 6/20 accident by purchasing

Mary Kay Cosmetics from Trish Niemoth during the month of July.
Trish has generously agreed to donate ALL profits from July sales to the Matchus family to assist with covering the expenses related to the accident.
Here’s how you can help! Go to www.marykay.com/tniemoth to place your order. When you order, reference the Matchus family in the notes section of the order. Trish will consolidate one order on 7/15/09 and another on 7/30/09 to save shipping costs. Your merchandise would be delivered about a week after each date. People can order from ANYWHERE, so pass the word on to your friends and family across the country. There would be a little bit of cost for shipping, but there would still be profit passed along to the fund-raising effort. Please note gifts with purchase will not be applied to fundraising orders.
If you prefer to order over the phone, just call Trish at 402-699-3434.

Murdock 1913 Tornado?

I received an email with this photo (front and back) of a postcard concerning a tornado that swept through Murdock in 1913. Is anyone familiar with this information? Below are pictures of the post card and a copy of the email I received.

“Teri, I am a dealer in stamps, covers, and picture postcards. In May, after a stamp show in Denver, we purchased a very large collection of old covers - mostly Nebraska, but also some Colorado and Idaho. The collector - who died 3 years ago - was born in Nebraska, but apparently had lived much of his adult life in Colorado. He was not a postcard collector, rather he had attempted to collect as many different town cancels from Nebraska that he could locate over the years. I am sure he bought this for the postmark. I don't know if he wrote Murdock in pencil on the card, or if that was done by someone else.
The date is very definitely April 1913 - I am not sure of the day of the month. This is shortly after the "Easter tornado" in Omaha. I'm not sure how close you are to Omaha, and I could find nothing on the internet regarding that horrible event that mentioned Murdock.
Hope this helps.

Kindest regards,

Bob Chisholm (yes - a relative of Chisholm, whom they named the Chisholm Trail after)”
