A Night for Marti

Activities started at 6 pm with a bake sale, dunk tank, Omaha Royals mascots and a pitching challenge.

Creighton softball girls were there and Tara Oltman (3 time all American) pitched for a batters challenge against her. It was a lot of fun! Very few hit her 70mph pitch. It was 3 pitches for a $1

The game started with members of the high school choir singing the national anthem and Kris Ita gave an update on Marti and thanked everyone for their support.

The Creighton softball team donated prizes that were raffled off throughout the game and given away as trivia prizes. Some of the prizes were Creighton batting helmets, team polo shirts, team t-shirts, a full catchers outfit (which Paige Vogler won), signed softballs, sweat bands, and batting gloves. Thank you Creighton!!

After the game Tara pitched again and the dunk tank was busy. Base races ended the night and a good time was had by all!

(Thanks to Dawn Hromanik for sending in this information!)

From: Pastor Bob Neben of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Murdock, Nebraska
Celebrating 110 Years of Worshipping God in the town of Murdock

Christians have been worshipping God in the town of Murdock for 110 years. In 1899 a church was begun in the city limits of Murdock. It was part of the United Evangelical denomination. About the same time a Methodist Episcopal Church was also started. Both of these were English speaking congregations. In 1905 the Ebenezer Church was started, which was a part of the Evangelical Association denomination. This church was primarily for German speaking people.

Now these were not the first churches started in the Murdock Community. The Emmanuel Church northeast of Murdock was started in 1872 and the Callahan Church west of Murdock was started in 1892. These two churches united with the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in 1969 and 1954.
Christians have been worshipping God in the town of Murdock for over 110 years. This is worth celebrating. The following activities have been planned to celebrate.

On Saturday, July 4
• The Ebenezer United Methodist Church will have a float in the 11 a.m. parade held on the main street of Murdock.
• Following the parade the women of the Ebenezer Church will have homemade pie and ice cream for sale in the basement of the Church located at 220 Kansas Street.
• At 2:30 p.m. everyone is invited to a “Sing a Long” in the sanctuary of the Church. Former minister, Rev. Murry Johnston, who served the church from 2002 to 2004 will lead the singing.

On Sunday, July 5
• We will celebrate during the 9:30 a.m. worship service. In the service will be stories from the past, recognition of those who joined the Church before 1934 (over 75 years ago) and those who joined before 1959 (over 50 years ago), video of old pictures, special music and a message by Rev. Murry Johnston.
• At 11 a.m. everyone present will assemble on the east side of the Church for a group picture.
• Then at 11:30 a.m. everyone is invited to the free will meal of hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, cup cakes and drinks.

Please invite your relatives and friends to come to this celebration of Christians worshipping God in the town of Murdock since 1899.

The Lofte Community Theatre near Manley opens its 33rd season with Tom Dudzik's family drama, "Over the Tavern." The story is set in the Eisenhower years of 1950s America. However, life is far from idyllic for the Pazinski family of Buffalo, New York. They live in a cramped apartment above the tavern owned and ran by the head of the family, Chet Pazinski. The youngest of the family, 12 year-old Rudy, decides that he's had it with traditional family values and those of the Roman Catholic Church. When he announces to his already stressed family and the ruler-wielding nun, Sister Clarissa, that he wants to look around for a more "fun" religion, all hell breaks loose.

While "Over the Tavern" does have some hilariously funny moments, it is truly a sentimental look at families, growing up and God. It's a great script that is sure to both entertain and cause audience members to reflect on their own adolescent experiences.

Starring in his first leading role at the Lofte is twelve year-old Tucker Flodman of Eagle. Also in the cast are Cheryl Grimshaw of Plattsmouth, Kevin Holdorf of Manley, Evan Wooten of Waverly, Bill Hayes of Nebraska City, Lizzy Pegler of Elmwood and Virginia Howe Kincaid of Elkhorn.

Performance Dates are May 29-31, June 5-7 and 11-14. Showtimes are 7:30pm Thursday-Saturday and 2:30pm on Sundays. General admission tickets can be purchased either on-line or by contacting the box office at (402) 234-2553. However, if you're still thinking about purchasing season tickets, now is the time. Season passes (for the 5 regular season shows) may be purchased for $60 which equals $12 per show. This is an overall savings of $20 for the entire season. The season package pricing is only available through June 14th.

Cast of "Over the Tavern." Front row, Cheryl Grimshaw, Virginia Howe Kincaid and Lizzy Pegler. Back row, Kevin Holdorf, Tucker Flodman, Bill Hayes and Evan Wooten
