Inspiration
Keepers - (sent in by Julie Schmale)

I grew up in the 40's/50's/60's with practical parents. A mother, God love her, who washed aluminum foil after she cooked in it, then reused it. She was the original recycle queen, before they had a Name for it... A father who was happier getting old shoes fixed than buying new ones. Their marriage was good, their dreams focused. Their best friends lived barely a wave away. I can see them now, Dad in trousers, tee shirt and a hat and Mom in a house dress, lawn mower in one hand, and dish-towel in the other. It was the time for fixing things. A curtain rod, the kitchen radio, screen door, the oven door, the hem in a dress Things we keep. It was a way of life, and sometimes it made me crazy. All that re-fixing, eating, renewing, I wanted just once to be wasteful. Waste meant affluence. Throwing things away meant you knew there'd always be more. But then my mother died, and on that clear summer's night, in the warmth of the hospital room, I was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't any more. Sometimes, what we care about most gets all used up and goes away...never to return. So... While we have it it’s best we love it... And care for it... And fix it when it's broken... And heal it when it's sick. This is true... For marriage.... And old cars.... And children with bad report cards..... Dogs and cats with bad hips.... And aging parents.... And grandparents. We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it. Some things we keep. Like a best friend that moved away or a classmate we grew up with. There are just some things that make life important, like people we know who are special.... And so, we keep them close! Good friends are like stars.... You don't always see them, but you know they are always there. Keep them close. Author unknown
This was sent in by Marie Gregoire in response to last week’s “Inspiration” about teachers. Just had to share it:
“I love Mrs. Pointer too. She loved my boys... she loved everyone's kids, but she let every mother know how their child was special already while just in kindergarten, and sure to set the world on fire in their own special way with just the right encouragement.
A funny story, at Christmas she gave each child 3 - $1 gift certificates to McDonalds.
Art was so excited and came home to tell me that Mrs P had given him a "gift surfer ticket".
I still carry a $1 "gift surfer ticket" in my wallet and it will never be cashed.
It's a symbol of the promise of the future with love and nurturing given today.
It's also a symbol of what one good strong woman can do with the talents and gifts God gave her.”
Thanks for sharing Marie!

Robin Hood - Kids in Tights at the Lofte!
For the third straight year, The Lofte Community Theatre is proud to be hosting The Missoula Children's Theatre Summer Residency Program. This year's show, an original adaptation of the classic, "Robin Hood," is sponsored by the Home State Bank in Louisville.
The Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT), the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, has been touring extensively for 35 years now from Montana to Japan , and will visit more than 1,200 communities this year with 45 teams of Tour Actor/Directors. A tour team arrives in a given town with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play...except the cast. The team will hold an open audition at the Lofte on Monday, June 16 at 10am and cast 50-60 local students to perform in the production. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and two public performances are presented at 3pm and 7pm on Saturday, June 21.
Students must be preparing to enter the first grade through the 7th grade. Those receiving a part in the play will be notified immediately after auditions and rehearsals start at 12:30pm on that same day. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be made available to the actors, but generally practices will take place each day that week (June 17-21) from approximately 10am to 2pm. Absolutely no acting experience is required, but actors should be prepared to smile and have a good time!
Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for children. Reservations can be made by calling the Lofte Box Office at (402) 234-2553 or by using the Lofte's website, www.Lofte.com. Questions in regards to the MCT production can be directed to Anne Pope at LoftePr@Lofte.com

Helpful Hint
My Uncle Gene from Fort Dodge, Iowa sent this to me:
I've been using aluminum foil for many years. Great stuff, but sometimes it can be a pain. You know, like when you are in the middle of doing something and you try to pull some foil out and the roll comes out of the box. Then you have to put the roll back in the box and start over. The darn roll always comes out at the wrong time.
Well, I would like to share this with you. Yesterday I went to throw out an empty Reynolds foil box and for some reason I turned it and looked at the end of the box. And written on the end it said, "Press here to lock end". Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place. How long has this little locking tab been there? I then looked at a generic brand of aluminum foil and it had one, too. I then looked at a box of Saran wrap and it had one too! I can't count the number of times the Saran warp roll has jumped out when I was trying to cover up something.
I hope I'm not the only person that didn't know about this.
