Here’s some picture from the “Youth to Carnegie Hall” soup supper/auction event that was held Saturday, January 17.

Arial view of the outstanding turnout. THANK YOU to everyone who contributed!

A display of some of the ‘live auction’ items. Gene S. was very generous to donate his time for a live auction for some of the more expensive items.

The silent auction had over 100 items come in during the last 9 days! TEN tables were FILLED with items that were donated to be auctioned off.

The gift certificates alone took up one whole table.

Sara Dreamer headed up a t-shirt sale in memory of Dillon, Tyler, & AJ

The whole Carnegie Hall Choir gave the audience a hint of what’s to come May 20th as they performed a few songs for the crowd. BEEEAUUUTIFUL!

All in all with the dinner, the raffle, the silent auction, and the live auction, the event brought around $10,000.00. This money will be added to the funds already raised and help each individuals cost be defrayed by about $500.00 each

THANK YOU!

The Elmwood-Murdock Junior High Basketball Team coached by Paul Dwyer and Brent Kuhlman.
The Elmwood-Murdock Lady Knights B team played Palmyra on January 21, 2009. The girls played a competitive game but came out on the short end of the scoreboard 14-8. Both teams started slowly in the first quarter as no one scored. The second quarter we played more aggressive and were able to tie the score at half-time 6-6. The second half we did some good things to run our offense and get good shots, but unfortunately the shots didn’t go in. We need to get more aggressive and also cut down on our turnovers. We did a better job in the second half of boxing out and rebounding.
Leading Scorers: Raeanna J. – 4, Anna B. – 2, Kirstin C – 2

The Elmwood-Murdock Lady Knights A team also played Palmyra on January 21, 2009. The Lady Knights came out on the wrong side of a very competitive game 21-15. The game was very close all the way until the last two minutes of the game, when Palmyra made two shots that pushed the lead to four points. We had a couple of good looks at the basket at the end, but the shots didn’t fall. We had a strong inside game early in the contest, but Palmyra height caused us problems being able to rebound the ball and also make our short jump shots. We need to work on improving our rebounding and also handle the ball better.
Both teams played hard and did a lot of good things that we can build on considering this was our first game of the year.
Leading Scorers:Tara B – 10, Emma L – 3, Lindsay O – 2

The Elmwood-Murdock Lady Knights JH basketball team played Weeping Water on January 26, 2009. Weeping Water came out in the first game and was able to get some quick steals and layup to jump to a 12-0 lead. We played much better the last three quarters to keep in the game until late in the third quarter Weeping Water made a couple of shots to push the lead. We did a better job of rebounding and also of taking care of the ball after the first quarter; we just couldn’t make the shots we had. Final score Weeping Water winning 24-1.
The second game was close throughout, with Weeping Water getting a 28-19 win. Early in the game we were very aggressive and got a few steals that lead to easy baskets. We also looked to get the ball inside and were able not only score inside, but get some of their post players in foul trouble. In the remaining quarters, we didn’t get the ball to our posts, and also didn’t reverse the ball as well in our offense. We played hard, but could never get a rhythm going late in the game to help get our first win. We only shot 5 for 31 from the free throw line, if we make half those, we would have won the second game.
Leading Scorers:Emma L-11, Tara B-4, Lindsay O- 3, Lauren B-1, Raeanna J -- 1

Tidbits

Flexible vacuum
To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

Reducing Static Cling
Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and ... at da! .. static is gone.

Measuring Cups
Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.

Foggy Windshield?
Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!

Reopening envelope
If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily.

Conditioner
Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair.
